I did not expect to hear this news today when I pulled up this site to read my daily dose of smut. D:
Didn't Kaokao Entertainment (the company that owns Tapas) go after Bato because of piracy? But now they're shutting down Tapas???
They're shutting down all of their webtoons and novels sites across the globe but not JP one. They intend to merge all of them under 1 umbrella, kakaopage. My guess here all of their webtoons and novels in kr and eng will be published there. They're shutting down services by year end but we don't know if they are gonna migrate everything to kakaopage right away, or it'll happen later down the road. Hopefully sooner rather than later!
I just researched it and apparently they're not making as much money as they wanted on the English publishing side of business? The big report on what titles are being transferred is due on the 29th September. I'm so sad because I spent over 400,000 ink on there over the years :( now it's all going to disappear?! I'm gonna have to find a browser extension or something to download all my purchases or something. Or maybe just learn korean and submit my ID to every webtoon platform out there lmao. Like god damnnnnn. I learnt recently that if you do submit your ID to korean platforms you have to renew it/resubmit it every year due to the laws there.
