I think its because this story is based on ancient warfare.

In most ancient cultures it made more sense for solders to use spears instead of swords. To properly use a sword requires years of training, because of all that goes into fighting with a sword. Swords are were also fairly expensive to forge.

On the other hand spears were fairly inexpensive and it was easier to train a solder in spear tactics than swordsmanship.

Also, earlier in the manga they say that solders have to provide their own weapons and armor and their social class would directly affect what part of the army they joined.

So far we have seen the calvary (upper-middle to upper-class solders who could afford a horse) and the heavy infantry (the middle class rank who can afford a full set of armor, a large shield, and a spear).

Swords were usually a weapon of commanders/generals and other high rank solders from the upper-class.

This is how most warfare was done before the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians got involved. they were the exceptions to the rule of the day.

I love this story because you can tell that author researched ancient cultures and based it on something other than the middle ages of Europe. I can't wait to see what happens next.

maybe clothes are a hindrance lol~

or perhaps too poor to buy it~

also because a spear has more reach so is better for battling against multiple opponents and oncoming opponents while a sword is better for close-range duels or less opponents
