Under the Oak Tree
If you like Hinata from Naruto, you’ll love the FL. That being said, pretty solid premise: the FL grew up in an emotionally and physically abusive household, only then to be married off to a man who then leaves her for battle for three years. However, he returns, takes her back to his land, and they slowly fall in love. As compared to Hinata lol, the FL, Maximilian, is first shy, naive, and has a low, low opinion of herself. The ML, Riftan, is hot tempered and has a cold almost abrasive persona, but he is genuinely in love and gentle around Maximillian. Their relationship is cute - it’s a mutual love, and Riftan definitely showers her in it. There’s no “will they, won’t they” aspect to their relationship, because they do love or at least are very interested in each other from the first chapter. Outside the magic and political intrigue, the main conflict of the story is Maximillian herself: in her words, “there’s no one I hate more than myself.” Other than a romance, the story is about an FL that tries to find her confidence and build herself back up from years of abuse and neglect by a power hungry father; she is at first self deprecating and doubts herself at every angle, but she slowly learns how to be confident in herself and her abilities in order to be the Madame of the household. It’s not an overnight thing, which I like; it’s a slow process, and it’s something that she has to do by herself. However, and this is my personal point of view, the ML can come off as overly shy and naive - it seems as though almost everything puts her in a flustered pile. And while the “explicit” (it’s not really explicit tbh more like implied) scenes are nice, I do start to skip them because they appear so often to the point that any time I see Riftan appear I almost find myself skipping his chapter entirely bc I know how it ends up. But despite that, it’s a good manhwa, at times even refreshing and different from others.
