It's a dark piece for sure, but it's written very well that at the end you will feel sorry for both of them.
So here's the flow of events.
Torture series (Leon tries everything he can to make Grace reveal where the rebel base in)
Grace escaped once but was caught straight away. Grace asked to be killed, Leon CAN'T. Grace found out about it. They play these weird manipulation game and Grace found more power in pretending to be the prisoner but knowing Leon can't kill her.
Grace's real identity. Leon met an old noble who served the king that have similar features as Grace. Found out Grace is half noble and the rebels know about this and trained Grace to kill other noble in a twisted pig kills pig reasoning.
At this point Leon wanted Grace as a person but knew that she has been brainwashed by the rebel too strong that if he sets her free she will not come back so he gets her pregnant as a leash. (Trashy move)
Leon and Grace pretended everything is okay and Leon said he got a plan to move overseas and have a house for her and they can live peacefully. Grace asked "are you happy?" Leon said yes. Then Grace smiles and ran away.
Found out about everything that the rebel was using her for and breaks the brainwashing. She knows Leon is following her, she revealed the village with all the rebels (Leon caught all the rebels and praised as a hero) he expected Grace to come back but Grace ran away.
AND THIS IS WHERE HE SUFFERS
Couldn't find Grace, she gave birth and Leon briefly almost caught her at the pier but Grace managed to escape and for the last three or so years. Leon was miserable, he got everything he wants but couldn't have her or their child. Have nightmares, got addicted to drugs to keep seeing hallucinations of Grace and their child that he can't even put a face on because he only say the back of the head.
Tried everything but Grace doesn't want him at all. At one point in a conversation with Grace he asked to be killed and that Grace doesn't even need to do anything just tell him to die and he will die.
A lot of things happened in between and the shortcut would be some remnants of the rebel took revenge with Grace and kidnapped their child in exchange they asked that Grace should kill Leon but when she's on the act SHE COULDN'T kill him.
They work together to get their child back.
Leon transferred half of the family asset to Grace and that in case of his death all of his asset will be to Grace. Bought properties outside of the country and two tickets for Grace and their child.
Grace and Child left.
News of Leon's death on the paper.
Reveals the corruption of the monarch and the government. People demolished the monarchy and nobles.
Grace didn't believe he is dead. Everyone did. Then for a long time Grace was waiting for him in their new house by the beach and she finally accepted that he died. Then he walked in and said "you didn't really think, I died right?"
Turns out he was too high profile to start a new life so Leon Winston needed to "die". The end.
