..but the MC seems naive as hell and easy to scam.
Merrick might deceive her about something not too horrible but why isn’t she suspicious at all about this guy? The whole suave act until he got her in bed and then he pulled out the “seduced virgin” act is already suspicious. Then him keeping secrets about his family, him disregarding her wishes of keeping their liaison quiet in the earlier chapters, him vanishing into thin air without even writing her a letter etc. Why isn’t the MC at least a little turned off here?
Now this “nephew” is putting the moves on her sister so bluntly?
And then she doesn’t even bat an eyelash when he mentioned he promised his hand in marriage to some other girl already. And I know people are speculating here that it’s Cinderella he’s talking about but I don’t think so at all.
He said there is an betrothal agreement but that he would like to marry a woman he loves. And the MC who is the head of the household wasn’t approached about any betrothal agreement. So it’s not Cinderella. And about him wanting to marry a woman he loves, he probably was talking about his little puppy crush he has on Cinderella where he invades her space and kisses her without even knowing if his “feelings” are reciprocated.
This rather disgusts me.
What disgusts me even more is the MC’s nonchalant reaction to this after having been witness to Cinderella fending off this guy by slapping him.
But everything is cool after Cinderella’s comments convince MC that she liked it. The hell?
And then we find out during a throwaway thought of MC that the empire practices Polygamy.
And this bird brain doesn’t have any lightbulb moment here that all these secrets of Merrick, him being on birth control (or whatever), his quick departure without ever sending her a message etc. could actually be because this guy might actually be married already? No suspicion at all?
She just excepts him not explaining things. She excepts him not marrying her because of some bs family issues? I’m sorry but she is either dumb or so desperate for love that she doesn’t care where she gets it from. Which would be interesting but this story doesn’t show this. Everything is just bliss and butterflies here.
There is a difference between trusting your partner and being a fool in love.
The difference is that a fool in love ignores the obvious red flags and just accepts whatever dumb explanation there is for their partner keeping secrets from them. They come up with excuses and compare their similarities to convince themselves that everything is fine.
Lol sorry for this rant but it’s weird seeing the MC being portrayed as being adept in social situations and dealing with her property but when it comes to Merrick, she is blind and deaf to all his bs.
This also seems to extend to his family as well. His “nephew” harassing her sister, stringing her along just to drop the bomb of him getting engaged soon and seemingly not even being aware how this would sound and come across to the girl he put the moves on, seems to be socially acceptable here for some reason. And MC is taking this despicably well.
Even if the MC is someone who doesn’t care if she sleeps with a man she’s not married to, wouldn’t she still be pissed at some guy who is more or less “courting” her sister and then just drops the “I will get betrothed soon” bomb after all this occurred? Something that obviously hurt her sister deeply.
I’m expecting something big coming up because this is getting slowly but surely stale.
Right now this is just Gossip girl in costume and not some historical fantasy. People just bang around however they see fit here, without worry of pregnancy, social repercussions or being left behind in disgrace.
They could have set this in modern times and there wouldn’t be a difference in how they act. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
Honestly I expected him to be some sort of Villain as soon as he appeared. He has those slanted eyes and self satisfied expression when looked at the MC like she’s the next batch in his belt during their first meeting that I thought he was up to something.
I don’t know, the whole first part of the story about him popping up and zeroing in on the MC immediately for apparently no reason, other then her kind of snubbing him, rubbed me the wrong kind of way.
He came onto her like he’s done this sort of thing a million times before and after the deed is done acts like she seduced him and how he was a virgin. And she buys it like an idiot, forgetting about how he seduced her, the inexperienced virgin. This story is all over the place and focuses on boring things while ignoring the elephant in the room. Merrick being a liar. Even if it’s just by omission, he’s still a liar. I don’t like him but I can’t stand the MC anymore because she’s such a fool when it comes to him ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
Lol. The whole time when I see the MC explain away his behavior or suspicious circumstances I just roll my eyes but now I’m getting more and more pissed off at this idiocy from her (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
And yes, this nagging feeling in the back of my mind, and obviously yours, is driving me up the wall.
You remember this Howl lookalike prince that talked about how his grandmother wanted him to marry the MC or something and how strangely he is connected to Merrick? To me it looks like Merrick had the same or similar reasons to approach the MC like this.
And he got to her first in every way except for putting a ring on it. I doubt he actually plans to marry her. Let’s think about it realistically and let’s forget about this historical setting which would make an illicit affair between people that aren’t married a huge scandal that would ruin her.
He went to the ball, he zeroed in on her, she snubbed him by presenting her sister as a dancing partner to him. He got annoyed by this, approached her, seduced her (I think she was drunk) and he got her right away. That’s a one night stand in my book. He had no other reason to approach her again, unless there is something else he wants. And I doubt it’s love. To me it looks like he only slept with her to butter her up and I’m speculating that he didn’t even count on her giving in so quickly like some barmaid. But he certainly enjoys the side benefit of bedding her.
He even got her to let him move in and financially help out. She is being slowly made dependent on this dude and she’s too blind to see it!
The thing to me is that Merrick kept who he is and everything about his life back in the empire a secret to the MC. But now he suddenly starts inviting his “nephew”, without caring if he would tell some secrets about him to the MC? If it doesn’t matter all of a sudden, why is he lying and why does he get uncomfortable whenever the MC starts asking him private questions? He’s hiding something big.
And I don’t know but I’m slowly starting to think that the loose lipped “nephew” was invited to give the MC this sob story about how Merrick was forced to kill a family member on purpose. And won’t you believe it, the MC is sympathizing with Merrick even more after hearing about this secondhand story.
I might be wrong but this story is all wrong, from them getting together so soon, no build up, him keeping quiet about his family and life, her excepting all the suspicious things about him that aren’t even really presented by the author as all too suspicious. It’s just glossed over. If at least we had the sisters , especially Cinderella take note of there being something off with Merrick and telling her sister, then I might think that the MC’s blindness to Merrick was part of the plot. But everything is just roses and daisies whenever it involves Merrick. Everything is easily resolved. Like the time she was mad at him for vanishing and not writing. He tells her some bs story, she swallows it immediately and they have sex (if I recall this correctly).
Sorry for the rant but this MC is making this story tedious, and from how the artist/author presented this story, it’s not even certain if Merrick has some villainous secret or if there is just a lame bs reason for him not being able to marry her or even to divulge his identity to her. Simply frustrating!! (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸
This is quite an interesting premise but I would also like to know what’s going on in the killer’s mind. Why did he exactly choose the MC to bestow his own brand of love onto?
Because he played his twisted game so well? Or did he know him before this?
I really hope they bust this guy and I hope the MC’s friend won’t be killed.
The only thing that’s starting to be a little grating here is how easily this dude kidnaps this cop and probably killed the other one out in the open. That’s rather unhinged behavior and would lead quickly to him getting caught. But here he probably won’t, which is aggravating to me.
What’s also annoying is that conveniently the video footage guy being a psycho himself who’s keeping the video footage for himself to what? Enjoy? Planning to blackmail the author? Wanting the killer to love him? What are the odds for the MC to run into 2 psychos so quickly? ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
