I guessed it too, but from experience, having bad company is really no different from being alone and even worse, to the point that being alone is even better. And spending money for herself certainly would make her feel better than for that ungrateful jerk plus the constant fear of betrayal she keeps feeling with him in her life isn't helping her situation either.
