in this cases, being a selfish B doesn't excuse interesting imo. personally i like the quiet strength of the current MC.

i think there are quite a number of strong female mcs who are strategically manipulative and are "selfish" but i don't think it's ever been quite so much as free willed and self serving as Ishtar here. Though I admit it is most likely a stepping stone to the nitty gritty development of the plot. I have little doubt there is a tragic backstory that will be concocted by the author to pull at my and similar readers' heart strings to garner our sympathy. Whether I'm willing to fall for that depends on how this author will spin it; not to mention whether the author will end up casting aside the current MC. If it requires taking the current MC taking the hit, that would be disappointing.
