i think it's bc of his gentleness towards him, especially after knowing mc was just taking advantage of him. mc knows something's off because before, he would've been really hurt by it, and now, it just feels eery bc he's acting like none of the lies/wrongness had undermined their relationship. like it just feels wrong in the way that mc can no longer tell what he's thinking or what character he's like, i think.
