His expression and demeanor gave her every reason to be afraid, regardless of his obliviousness to it. I like him better than shiny hair ...but he has problems.

Cabel has definitely been the one actually protecting her, and its obvious that he feels tenderly toward her---he probably keeps his distance when she's not in danger because he knows people are afraid of him and doesn't like scaring her. I mean, he wakes up if the sound of her breathing moves further away... how precious is that...my heart... (TT w TT) ...it hurts...
gotta say, I'm loving this role reversal--a girl who knows how to think for and take care of herself, helping rescue the meek, selfless hero from unhealthy psychological standards. You rescue that sugar-danish in distress, girl!
