I still strongly recommend it in my opinion it was pretty good and interesting, if you dont like black and white you can always go the chapters where its webtoon version (colored version )

I reckon it’s a “you either love it or hate it” kind of story. I still highly recommend it even tho like you, i’m not really a fan of the art style.

Much of the plot in the manhwa is character-driven so you have to at least understand the characters (and where they’re coming from) to see why they’re doing what they’re doing. Most of the hate the manhwa gets is that it’s toxic, and while I don’t refute that (it’s true, it is toxic), I feel like what these readers failed to perceive is that these characters are messed up people, carrying personal baggages and childhood traumas, so ofc their relationship would also be messed up. What do u expect?

I also feel like you have to be in the right mood for this type of story. While it started off somewhat light and funny, it certainly became heavy towards the middle and end. If you like drama and angst, you would love this. If you’re looking for something light and smutty, then this is not it for you.

You just gave me the feedback that I need I really appreciate it, and I’m the kind that hate the drama and angst cause I think of yaoi like an escape from the real world so I don’t want something that will make me feel down but I think I’ll read it when I feel like I need something heavy.

I pity people like you two who can't appreciate or enjoy the incredible masterpiece that Totally Captivated is because your eyes are full to the brim with bitterness, anger, and hatred over "pedophilia - which is in the past and lightly handled, cheating, part of the story and beautifully handled, and stupidity, yes, stupidity is definitely present but it's not in this manhwa.

I personally like the manhwa mostly because I like Ewon’s characterization. I find his inconsistencies interesting - how he is subservient not because he lacks a backbone, but because of his nonchalance (he lets Mookyul control him not because he’s weak like any other uke uwu out there but because he just doesn’t care enough. “You want to have sex? Fine, let’s get this over with!”). But when he’s pushed to a difficult situation (break up ch), he’ll stand his ground and is even very cutthroat about it.

However, as you have pointed out, there a lot of problematic things tackled and downplayed in this manhwa. Incest, noncon, cheating - I HATE all of those. Tho I don’t count stupidity as something to be turned off about (at least here) since most of the mangas have stupidity anyway. No stupidity, no drama, no story lol.

Point 1:You do understand that you’re the one being disrespectful in this thread, right? Or do you lack self-awareness? No opinion is the right opinion because opinions are subjective and personal. I actually enjoyed the story like you but that doesn’t mean that those who found this story problematic is any less valid.

Point 2: i agree. Without incest, noncon, cheating, it wouldn’t be TC. However, you can still have drama and story without incest, noncon, and cheating. Ofc it wouldn’t be like the TC that we know today, but one can definitely create a story without all of those. Other writers have been doing it all this time.

Point 3: can you provide me any drama in which a character didn’t act stupidly EVER? Stupidity, ofc in varying levels, have been part of the stories since the dawn of time lol. This isn’t to mock the intelligence of the writers. They make the characters do something stupid because people in rl can also be stupid. If they were a perfect cardboard cut-out characters, then it would somehow be boring, don’t you think?

I think that characters are contrary, but stupid goes a little bit far. haha. I don't think the stupidity of characters in stories resembles real life stupidity too much. Characters have a good excuse for their stupidity. They service the plot.
I loved what you said about Ewon's character and even mulled it over again later in the day while I was working.
I have lots of problems with people who get things like rape and incenst in stories all out of proportion, and even seem violent and hysterical in their over-reactions.
