Looks like their hand is the size of his torso. I have many pics of my nephew and me carrying him so i just looked at those. Im only 5'5, my hand was around the size of both my nephews (6lb when born) and bigger than my nieces (4lb when born) torso. Husband and brother are only like 2-4 inch taller than me and both their hands are a good inch bigger. Even my mom who is 5' hand size is at least over half a torso.
TLDR: babies are a lot smaller than we think/remembered. Both men are around 6' so proportion wise it isnt unreasonable for one hand to hold the kid by torso/bottom.
