this is the first isekai i read where ML is kinda.....ordinary?? but it makes it interesting. hes not a swordsmanship/magic prodigy, hes not a strong politician, he does his duty and martial arts but not exactly have exaggerated achievements or anything, hes also obviously defeated in terms of express power and mentality before FL came, so he doesnt have a leg up in court. hes just a regular joe who is a firstborn prince. that makes FL's struggle even more precarious bc her husband isnt special like the many other isekai ML. i do like their modesty, its a different protagonist flavor.
ON THE OTHER HAND i feel like, the lady in waiting is what the typical isekai FL is; modern, audacious, and confident. i feel like instead of ML, the prodigy/trump card on their side is the lady in waiting. theres only little chapters now but im kinda hooked on her character, she steals the scenes sorta
The FML herself is also average too amd not in the bad way. She was just an average Joe in her past life and when returning she's going to be the same but with more info. It's extremely realistic in my opinion.
shes VILE like???? breaking the heart of the man you murdered in a previous timeline AFTER you use him to get control of your house in the current timeline? so delightfully evil. and then she stole his discovery from the past TL and used that to propel a public disengagement? and even after all that she still has the balls to go to his house and went "im so bored lets have casual sex every so often" LMAO ruthless.
i love the ml too. hes definitely pathetic head over heels but hes not the usual whiny tsundere or whatever. hes treading his own moral conflict being crazy for the girl who admitted to have murdered him in a different timeline, while also thinking yea thats a bad bitch no wonder i died lol but i dont want to lose to her now even if i want her haha. theyre so exciting!
i haven't read all chapters yet but yes lol, i like this FL, she's so ambitious and proactive, i frikkin love his brother as well

cassio is an asshole, still is per chapter 38 BUT among the 3 men, hes the only one who got busy with brains, i wonder if thats why ophelia chose to entrust emilia to him and not the tepid tempered raretis, even though in hindsight itd have made sense for ophelia to put emilia in the care of someone with least visible conflict with her. cassio is smart and live off stimulations (??? sort of). hes borderline a sicko but hes not dumb at it like the ponytail. in passing, i feel like cassio and ophelia are both very similar characters. theyre blunt and kinda twisted, bitter, but also incredibly protective. ophelia has been seen showing that she can be genuinely affectionate with emilia, and i think in time cassio can be a sincere person too, hence why ophelia chose him for guarding emilia post her passing.
i saw spoilers saying that raretis is the ML but honestly i find it very hard to believe, although maybe its also for the best for emilia. but right now though, cassio is so interesting and their interaction is diabolical and complex and their chemistry is flying sparks everywhere. i just feel like even though ellodi is the exact ophelia lookalike, cassio is literally the spitting image of ophelia, in terms of personality and perspective
I honestly think so too. Raretis is so extremely apathetic... and has been all their lives that it's painful to even imagine him as ml. As someone supposedly close to the late Ophelia you'd think that he'd be at least appalled by her parents bringing Ellodi in and be more clear of his opinions about it...

Yeah... the other two guys are terrible... like... twisted psychos that don't even deserve to be called 2nd ml... and the fact that mos readers are rooting for blondie even tho he is trash... says a lot about just how bad Raretis is. I've read some time ago that the worst him a fictional character can make is being boring/unappealing and even being a villain is better than that. This comic is a prime exemple of that.

This really shows you how much it is important the way an author draws a character. I had times when honestly I sympathize with a villain or I dislike a main character because I swear if it wasn’t for the POV and drawing of the characters. They wouldn’t be a villain or wouldn’t be a main character…
im just taken by surprise by the fact that this isekai webtoon focuses on mother daughter bonding and not entirely lone FL surrounded by men competing for her or whatever. ive always been bamboozled by how easy they brush off mothers; often having them nonexistent by killing them out of the story and not even bringing them up at all, or have them be a very tragic death to be used as a vital relationship trigger between FL and the male members of her family.
BUT THIS?????? empress and FL are both fiery and sassy and snarky and stubborn and they might be bickering all the time but no one can deny that this, at its core, is a mother-daughter story. theories about whether FL is her bio daughter or not aside, as a mommas girl myself...im so happy to have given this webtoon a chance cause i did thought this was going to be the usual male centered FL story
