I think Erban is the empress' little brother. Like biologically speaking. He's the emperor's little brother in law. I think, if that makes sense? I might be wrong but thats what I thought.
I think Erban's mother is a relative of the empress. For example Erban's mom is a sister of Duke A and the empress is the daughter of Duke A. If that's the case thay would be possible that they are blood relative and inherit the appearance of another.
