Both ML and FL are annoying, if the FL just explain what happened to her, they wouldn't have misunderstandings, and what an asshole of a ML. Also, where the hell is her ability to read minds? It was only shown a few times.

So far in the novel Richard is definitly the ML. The FM's cousin will however only accept to take him back as a fiancé if he prove himself (inherit the fief of his family for exemple). Since the FL is rotting for him and hope he will manage to get the cousin approval, it is safe to assume that it is how the story will end.

Basically, he was love struck right when she came to the capital because she looked exactly like the picture of the girl he was shown for the engagement. He knows she has a good temper too. After she told him at a ball that she is here to find a fiance (her cousin will only let her stay at the estate and escape the become the Princess's maid fate if she found one), he is panicked and ask her if he can't be her fiancé after all. She jump on the occasion because less stress (she don't have feelings for him at that point) but when Richard ask the cousin to renew the engagement the cousin refuse, saying that she is now very valuable and can do better than him. He is even thinking of marrrying her himself if she agree. However, after a lot of pushing and intervention from the FL, the cousin accept to put Richard to the test. He need to become the heir to be worthy. The only possible ML except Richard might be the crown prince but I don't think he is popular or even meant to be the end game because he only try to get her fat (apparently he has a fetish).
