Okay, It's been some time since I've read it, but basically: It's a happy ending. For some. For me, it was absolutely disgusting and disappointing, but that's because I really wished the MC and ML hadn't ended up together! The seme did so many things to the uke I almost get PTSD from remembering. And I've read some really heavy stuff, but this one just hit me in another level. Maybe because I really thought for one moment the ending would be different.
Basically after the Seme raped the uke many times to the point of bleeding, threatened him, psychologically abused him, even took some time off to screw his older lover for some time (WHO WAS HIS UNCLE BTW) -- before going back to the MC, the MC FINALLY left him.
Seriously the best point in the whole novel, when the MC reacts and leaves. And then, after some time the ML finds him in a pub or something, and basically in front of everyone gets on his knees and begs the uke to come back (wich was a big thing and all because the dude was a royal and all that). And the MC, you guessed it, freaking forgave him, so nows your ending after a time skip:
The ML goes to find the MC and they are acting all lovey dovey, as they've been doing for years apparently. The ML then proceeds to tell the MC that he's gonna be a father! A father again, if Im not wrong, think he popped some other kids before that one. Fact is that great ML still visits his imperial harem and all.
The MC surprisingly doesn't really give a big reaction over his lover fathering another kid, and the seme is like awww wanted to see hubby get jealous or sm like that.
Then the MC for some reason goes to the countryside to do something that I don't remember, and finds this beautiful woman. He has a chance to get with her, and he contemplates it, but he decides not to be with her. The ML then shows up and is like, so glad you didn't sleep with her because all was my masterplan to test your loyalty to me and I would kill her if you had touched her, but if she got pregnant I'd kill her after delivering your baby because I wouldn't be able to ever kill your son and I would raise him. What a romantic man am I right?
Then the ML says the most atrocious thing portrayed as romantic I have ever read in my entire life: He makes this big revelation that he actually only fucked all these concubines all those years to keep his dear uke safe!! Because if he didn't favor his harem they might try to harm his beloved male lover out of jealousy and greed.
So there's your ending: The uke forever tied down to the seme and only him, pretty much a kept mistress, while the seme keeps sleeping with numerous women and popping royal children. But, only because of his love and devotion to the uke, of course.


Serious talk. The uke did many wrongs things in the beginning, especially to women. That's why many people thinks all he suffered in the seme's hand was justified. But to me, he did not deserve what he went through in the psychotic ML's hands at all.
This is not a story of love. It's a story of a human being broken, and broken, and broken so many times in so many torturous ways - physically and psychologically -- that nothing was left in the end. A kept mistress, living forever with the one who broke him, and sharing him with so many others.
My opinion of this story would have drastically changed if the author had ended the novel right there, with the seme begging on his knees and the uke being firm on his decision of leaving him and finally moving on with his life. Sadly, that's not what happened.

i remember reading the novel previously cause i couldnt wait for the update..but like you just summarize it really full of traumatize things and makes you sick from reading it.. i still remember how the seme torture uke after his uncle death and blame him until uke become impotent right if im not mistaken? and seme actually in love with his uncle since beginning which is sickening,..i was really hoping uke didnt didnt accept him even though he was kneeling and beg uke to accept him which is the big deal cause he is emperor and he kneels in front of everyone,.but i seriously hate him to death...well but i heard it was based on true story for some part, i guess that why he still have a lot of concubine and have child with other women since royal need someone to succeed the throne i guess..this story really not meant for fluff kind of romance..

The cruelty and insanity was just....ugghhh the f*** and yeah the ending was disappointing but at the same time realistic (the ancient times were crazy).
After reading your summary... Feelings and emotion I had/have for this novel are resurfacing again and the PTSD IS SOOO TRUE!

basically she’s been reborn twice. she was the original athy in the story, and after she was killed by her father, she was reborn in the modern world. for reasons we don’t know yet she was then reborn again back into the story as athy, and she kept the memories of the second life but not her first

Yep! The Athy we know now has always been the Athy from the first life (the one where Jeanette was loved but Athy was killed by Claude.) She was also the Korean girl who was an orphan and died due to some overdose thingy.
