this really isnt that good the art carried the story. sorry, but you just cant call a woman a bitch
Keep in mind that in Japanese, they don't really have curse words in the same way that English or other languages do. Most of the cursing you see targeted toward people that's been translated is actually just them speaking in a rude way that's hard to translate into English without curse words. For example, one you often hear in anime is "kisama" which is often translated as "bastard," but it's actually just a rude way of saying "you." It gets translated as bastard in English because we don't really have different ways of referring to people based on formality like they have in Japanese. The most we have really is if you want to sound "noble" you use older/bigger words or if you want to sound more professional you avoid using "can't" and use "cannot" instead. If you listen closely you can also hear a lot of the time that when the subtitles say "bitch" the character actually just said "Onna," which means "woman," in a rude sounding voice. It gets translated as bitch from the context to make it make more sense to an English speaker (Think 4KIDS Dub of Pokemon calling a Rice Ball with a pickled plum a "Jelly Donut" since most American kids wouldn't know what a rice ball was). I mean, they have words that can be taken as insults obviously. Like, they have a word for whore, which just refers to women that work in brothels as a name for a job when that was a thing that was legal. That word is obviously offensive to a women who does not work in a brothel though, so it can be used as an insult but is not necessarily a curse word in the same way as calling someone a bitch in English. I haven't seen the raws, but I assume he's just saying "onna" or "mezu" (which is the closest approximation to bitch since it means female as in the sex of an animal rather than a human woman).
TLDR: He's not technically calling her a bitch. He's just calling her "woman" in a rude way. Thus, wholesomeness is kept. Sorry for the lecture lol.
too much rape. you can make a good manhwa without so many dramatic scenes
thats true but its also the story the author came up with, if you dont like it then stick to reading fluffy wholesome manhwas instead of complaining about manhwas that quite literally tell you what theyre about in their descriptions
im critiquing the manhwa though, im allowed to say this
you can very much so have dark themes such as rape and human trafficking— but at some point it does become too much. it turned a good manhwa into misery porn
Youre allowed to critique the manhwa obviously, but i wouldnt say the manhwa was "misery porn" if the manhwa was constant scenes of those dark situations then i could agree with you, but given the characters in the story (mainly pilwon) the dark themes shown made sense. and i agree with some of those scenes being too much, there were moments where i had to stop reading for a bit bc it was a lot to take in, but at the same time i dont think it was too much to the point that you could call it "misery porn", thats just my opinion tho, ive also read a lot worse like non zero sum which you could quite literally call that misery porn since almost every single chapter was based on raping the main character.
and this wasnt me in any way shape or form justifying the dark scenes in pearl boy. Im just stating my opinion. ( i dont agree with rape, or any type of abuse etc.)
thats very fair, i agree there are worse manhwa out there. non sum zero is a whole 'nother level lol
Definitely
