People say that he is lying, always lied, or so forth. But that is wrong. He has dissociative identity disorder instead of creating an alternate personality he chooses to forget the bad things. He lives life as if he was drifting from one happy moment to the next editing out all of the bad things. It may not even be a conscious choice, just something bad happens and he wishes he could forget the bad thing and he does.
The one weird thing to me is how he suddenly remembers everything. Usually a patient would need years of therapy to achieve that.
