The princess died and her body is possessed by an immortal crazy witch. A curse she got that causes her to live and die, by taking on others bodies. The original princess died from illness, hence why people noticed such a personality change.
She’s obsessed with the ancestor of Theo, Einhard, who looks identical to current day Theo.
Einhard loved a girl called Lira, which made the witch insanely jealous and having unrequited love with Einhard made her more and more insane.
She she cursed the dukes family, tricked Lira into thinking that if she sacrifices herself, it will lift the awful blood curse. She loved Einhard and wanted him to be free of the curse. It of course didn’t stop the curse, a lie told by the witch to just kill off Lira. Einhard was grieve stricken, killing himself and telling the witch he swears to kill her in his next life.
And because he did that, the witch ends up cursed herself with immortality; hence why she’s in the princess body now. I’m unsure of the king arrangement, but he’s in cahoots with the princess, only for the sake of him blindly always wanting to help his daughter…… even when it’s obvious she’s insane and has a cult!
