After reading the comment section i was expecting an absolute bitch ruler but she isn't even that bad? I mean yeah she's lazy and has concubines (which mind you a lot of other manhua emperors have) but she can have great character development

Idk why ya'll want absolute perfect, badass female leads if everyone was alike it would get boring.

Man, I feel for everyone here. Dani has such a realistic existential crisis in regards to this world that I can really feel for her and can understand why she has such a hard time developing her relationships with the people in the "fictional" world. And of course, I feel for the "fictional" people who are struggling to stabilize their relationship with her but don't know what's going on.

It's such an absurd situation that it'd be difficult to explain and expect people to believe her (I mean, imagine someone I consider kind of a friend seriously telling me I'm not real and neither is my entire world. I would think they were crazy or joking before I even entertain the thought that they were telling me the truth).

Whenever I read this I get really mad I don’t know y I end up go back to it
The heroine always blaming herself when she never at fault
The dude betrayed her then also act like a victim I don’t know don’t play with a pure maiden heart
Dude ‘s friend comes in and act like he knows everything when the heroine already in much pain
I hate that she has to apologize for things when things happen really was out of her control

For some reason i like this one the most probably cuz the other stories had the same plot got into a car crash got reborn but into the Palace things like that evil person wants to destroy her etc etc...
Those stories i did find them intresting but as soon more stories like that with the same plot is just ugh
..

pretty good, but I find that the way that he fell for her was kind of just thrown in there, but that's okay. I also felt that there wasn't that much substance to the story. Like it was long but also short at the same time if that makes sense? Like they didn't really dive that deep into the setting and didn't make it that real or intense in my opinion. It was more like very surface level which is fine too, it was just something that I didn't expect. Kind of like how they have to deal with their jobs and duties as well as inner conflicts. I think it would have been good if they learned more about the politics of things in the palace and stuff but this was a good read. Currently on ch 86. But yeah somethings about this just wasn't wow or my favorite but its a good read. Also they're cute together ><

So, I have some major qualms about this Shoujo. Where do I even begin?

This Shoujo is absolutely terrible, I cannot understand for the life of me why this is garnering such praise, and a score of 9.3/10. The characters are flat and one-dimensional, there’s no textual integrity, world-building is shoddy and the plot is too complex and hard to follow.

To begin with, none of the character’s actions make any sense. Areum finds herself in an alternate realm and somehow adjusts almost instantaneously? If someone from the 21st century were transported into what appears to be the Victorian Era, I think they’d be more than a little shocked. As the story progresses, it almost seems to forget this plot point and is rendered completely insignificant. What was even the point of the entire ‘reincarnation’ aspect if it isn’t referenced or explored further?

Some parts of the story detail her inner monologue and thoughts, however this is not effectively utilised. This could provide real opportunities to further develop her character, reveal her motivations and her feelings. Following the first few chapters, she rarely, if at all, thinks about that fact that she is somehow in an alternate universe. She doesn't question how exactly she ended up there, or how any of this is possible. She never thinks about her life on Earth, her family or friends etc. Her entire character seems to revolve around her interactions with the Duke.

She is trafficked and sold into the slave trade, facing verbal abuse from society for her appearance and doesn’t seem the least bit bothered by it. She harbours no resentment towards the people who trafficked her, the Duke who bought her and treated her terribly at first or the background characters that attack her. The effects of such a seemingly traumatic experience is hardly referenced further.

Which leads me to my next point. The motivations of background characters attacking her makes no sense. Throughout the shoujo, the fact that he is supposedly a cruel and ruthless man is repeated. So why would his workers attack someone he clearly values, if he has no problem killing them?

The character of Travis/Duke Millard/whatever is also wildly inconsistent. Other background characters continually reinforce his apathetic and cruel demeanour, however the story portrays him as essentially falling in love with the lead upon first glance. He is cold and stoic in all interactions with other people, but as soon as he talks to Areum he blushes and becomes flustered like a schoolgirl? It simply doesn't make sense at all. If he truly is hundreds of years old, a vampire etc., a pretty face isn’t going to do much for him. Nor is someone as flat and uninteresting as Areum is. Whilst I understand she resembles a vampire in whatever universe this is, her character as a whole is not unique or different than any of his other workers. The audience cannot understand WHY the Duke has taken such a liking to her, because the Shoujo makes no attempt to develop either of the leading characters.

The plot is also a major problem I have with this shoujo. The plot is simply too complex and too disjointed that I honestly don't even know where this is going. From what I remember (and I'm not going to go back and reread this garbage), a curse is placed on him, so that he dies if he falls in love with someone? And many people are invested in his death and so plot to make him fall in love? Wouldn't that make him apprehensive of everyone he meets, and wouldn't he be suspicious of Areum?

Following along this plot thread, the Duke is definitely aware of this curse. He knows that falling in love will kill him. So why hasn't he killed her, as soon as he felt himself have the smallest bit of affection towards her? Objectively considering this, he doesn't act like a duke. As this is an alternate universe, I am assuming that societal values are very against classes acquainting with one another and is very frowned upon. So why does he concern himself with Areum when he doesn't care about anyone else belonging to her class?

Their romance plot thread is too sudden. The story doesn’t show their love, but rather shows Areum spouting some sappy shit and him blushing, which again makes no sense when you consider his characterisation. I simply couldn’t empathise with any of the characters because I don’t care about them. At this point, I couldn’t care whether either of them suddenly dies or what because this story is utter garbage.

The only redeeming aspect of this shoujo I can think of is the art style. I, however, cannot think of the reason for the artistic choice to make Areum's eyes so large in comparison to all other characters. It's a personal opinion, but I think it's strange.

To conclude, I am shocked by the amount of praise this has received. Anyone that has read a decent shoujo can clearly see how terribly written this is in terms of the characters and the plot. Characters are bland, the plot is too complex and disjointed and the story does not leave me with a burning desire to find out what happens next. I don’t care about any of the characters, in fact I hate the majority of them. Their actions don't make sense. Either way, I'm already too invested in this and will finish it to see if the shoujo somehow miraculously improves.

As an Asian myself, my mom always told me those who show a lot of skin are insecure about themselves and need everyone's compliments. To me, I never really cared or paid attention to what people wore because it didn't affect me and even when I did look at people's outfits, I always thought "oh cute" or "not my cup of tea" and just went about my day. And because I didn't want to argue with my mom I just nodded but when she judged a girl as "kinda slutty" for wearing a black top that showed a bit of stomach and a cute mini skirt I popped off.
It was bullshit to me and i was so angry. Just let her wear what she wants. She's not hurting anyone! She's doing it for herself because it makes her feel good! My mom then proceeded to explain to me that you can look sexy even without showing skin and I agreed but just because someone does show skin doesn't mean they're "slutty" or "insecure". Sometimes the reason is as simple as "it looks cute on me so I'll wear it"
God, the way people express themselves is different. Just move on with your life, you don't have to make them feel like shit just because the clothes don't for with your standard. If i want to look conservative and sexy then ill do it. If i want to show skin and look sexy then ill do it. I'll wear whatever I want to make myself satisfied so if you got a problem tell me and I'll debate you lawyer style on why I can whatever I want without anyone's approval

Does anyone know any more Yaoi mangas/manwhas with a similar art style to this??? For some reason I can’t get into a story if the characters looks sharp, unlike this style which I can only describe as round.

If you care about her truly, then be a friend. Which means asking if shes ok and not being overly happy shes fought her true love. It also means not being annoying as hell and trying to make moves all the time. Your friendship could blossom...if it was meant to be. Which it obviously isnt bc you so clingy boy

So i read the ending on mangarock. Spoilers, be careful! :

So umh... ye. I'm... disappointed? I mean... Without any explanations, a bed appears in the dream once Lu Xuan is gone. They talk. And then they have vanilla sexe. Well the vanilla was actually really cute but... it kind of felt... rushed? I don't know, maybe I was just not in the mood anymore after how the plot turned in the last chapters...
And then, they just got teleported naked (WTF!?!?!?) in real life, in the China temple, with the guy who knows about the stone (I don't remember his name). He is just glad they did it, the stone lose its powers and he talks about a legend which became true or something we will never know more about.
And then it ends with the most cliche sentence ever; "this is only the beginning of our relationship".

Well at least the ending is happy. I didn't want a bad ending for them.
And Kang Jinha got his hair back to normal, thanks god ♡

But there are so many things left... Like, so what will happen with Siwon's friend? What will Lu Xuan become? I would have loved it if the stones had a morevcomplicated backstory too. And, remember when Siwon saw his futur self? I wanted a little bit more of that :c

The beginning was so nice. This used to be my favorite... The flashbacks and the backstory of Kang Jinha were sooo beautiful. I also really liked the dream concept! So mysterious and magical! But well... I feel like the author didn't have a directive line. Like when she started the story she didn't know how the end would be, she would just know that they would have sexe and that they would be happy. And when she felt like ending it she just made a bed appears out of nowhere and... that's it. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I felt while reading.

The evolution of the characters was also weird... I mean unpopular opinion but I really, really love the fact that Siwon was getting bullied and was scared when the others saw him kissing Kang Jinha. But rather than him yelling at poor Kang Jinha and then being kidnapped for the rest of the story... I think that seeing him facing the others together with Kang Jinha would have been so nice! And we could have seen the problems the homosexuals, or just differents persons, can have in real life because of our society. I don't know if what I said was clear?
But instead, we got a stupid Siwon, who was blushing when seeing Lu Xuan (why ;-; I know he is super sexy but still) until Kang Jinha came back. The author should not have focused this much on the love triangle. It was way too long!

Also the BDSM moments were not needed. Yes I do love BDSM, and I do read a lot of it. But I don't think it belongs in this story. It was just done for fanservice because it's popular, let's be honest.

Now only the epilogue is left. I guess we will see them adults, as a family, maybe with some adopted children. Siwon probably became a professional drawer (I really hope so!). And maybe we will even see Siwon's friend and Lu Xuan together as a couple. Dunno why I feel like thoses two will end up together. Could be wrong thought.

What do you guys think?

To conclude, I feel really sad and disappointed by the ending, and it seems like I'm not the only one hopefully. The story should have stopped way sooner.
But well this story will still stay in my heart because I'm a big sensible and nostalgic person...

Oh! And the art is still God Tier btw ♡ I hope I will get to that level one day!

Oh right. I'm french. So sorry if I made some grammatical stupids mistakes! Trying my best to improve (⌒▽⌒) pls be understanding ><

Love ya all ♡♡♡

Why are these stories always like this. Girl gets mistreated by her family, and when she starts to fight back. The family gets mad and try to stop her, but they get their asses kicked and don't learn their lesson. So they try to stop her again and gets beat up again. So they try again and get beat up again. Over and over, it's the same freaking thing.

I mean, it’s ok. It’s nothing amazing. Similar to like a shit ton of other rebirth mangas with the plot and genre. Unless you’re really into these types of plots, you won’t really find it that good cos it’s so typical and predictable. Added trashy points if the MC is some female assassin yet her ass doesn’t do shit and the ML does everything.

Despite the amount of these rebirth mangas recently, only a few is actually decent.
