Does anyone find that their taste in yaoi changes the more they read? At first I was okay with a lot of tropes but as I began reading more, I started disliking the ones I used to find enjoyable.
Yeah imo at first you're just trying things, but the more you read the more you develop your ability to critic
Series like At The End Of The Road or Super Lovers used to appear as very romantic ones a few years ago, now that I've read more I realize the seme were assholes, most of the time abusive, and that the uke were treated like smol hissing kittens whenever they tried to go against the seme's will
That and the very concept of always-seme and always-uke without having ever taken time to even ask "hey, do you want to dick or get dicked"... I used to accept it and now I can't bear reading that stuff, it's such a fucking turn-off :/
I also started off preferring the hard core stuff, its not boring to me now though but I seek it out less. Maybe because there's a lot of shoujo webtoon I've been reading that I wasn't as much of a hormonal human as I was. Still love those steamy scenes though but I like cute stuff and sweet scenes more nowadays.
A pretty normal thing. We become picky the more we've been reading (or watching) stuff. Years ago I loved reading short stories (one volume) where things were often rushed (encounter chap 1 - f* chap 2 xD). Now most of the time I don't even look at that kind of BL anymore (except when I want to chill and read something easy/ H stuff lol).
Well it's for the best. We have more diversity & developped characters/ relationships.
I remembered when I first read yaoi, a lot of them were about the seme raping or harassing the uke...
YES, this has become a more frequent thing for me whenever I read yaoi. I've become more nitpicky, my tastes have changed and I can point out almost any fault in a yaoi that I dislike.
Because of this, I get more hate lol... I've never considered my fellow yaoi readers to be people I'd never get along with, but now that I've opened my eyes my opinions on our community have changed. The more I interact with the people on this site, the more disappointed I get.
Like ffs some of them were praising a person who was having murderous, almost dangerous thoughts that could actually HARM a person in real life. They find manipulated bastards cute and adoring. Hypocrisy on this site is also real af.
And before I didn't really mind when people said they wouldn't care if they were raped by a handsome man, but now I realize how ignorant that sounds. Along with my picky tastes that I've developed, I've also become more nitpicky at the people.
I think this is just what happens when you stay around for too long. You start seeing the faults
Does anyone know a manga where the male lead is smitten, faithful and adores his woman? Preferably one where the guy isn’t a playboy or doesn’t have lingering feelings for someone in his past. Basically a fluffy romance.
I got chu fam.
★Mainichi Kiss Shite Ii Desu Ka?- this fits your bill. Straightforward and simple romance. the guy does give off the impression of a playboy but hes not one at all and is devoted to her. fluffy rom-com + its more old school than it looks
★ Valentine's Day and White Day - one shot, easy read and cute
★ Black bird- he loves her so much its surreal. A more heavier read than the ones mentioned above but if you love devoted guys kyo definitely fits the bill. Worth it.
★Zetsubou Danshi to Chuugoku Musume- cute rom-com
★The Villainess Want to Marry a Commoner!!- cute rom-com with some supernatural themes
★Elf Boyfriend & Boyish Girlfriend- quick and simple fluff read, with some implied adult content but it is not shown (it is also a little bittersweetness but its all gud)
★Why are you doing this, my Duke!? Webtoon- rom-com, starts out rough, then turns really funny, interesting to read
★My Husband is a Housewife- easy read, rom-com
★Please don't bully me, Nagatoro- funny and cute
★Kowamote Kokosei to Jimikosan- hes devoted and cute but there is an age gap so be warned
★Kaichou Wa Maid-sama- i cant not mention this
★ Ourran Highschool Host Club- or this xD
★Tsun-Ama na Kareshi- light and easy read, the guy is a tusndere but we get to see his internal fangirling over his girlfriend lol
★Mikami Sensei no Aishikata- hes super devoted and bit obsessed but there is an age gap so be warned
★Lingerie Logic- funny, easy read, rom-com
Other mentions:
★Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai- a girl who doesnt know love and a guy who lives for love, good communication and both support and work toward healthy goals for each other.
★Miniamaru Kareshi- similar to hananoi-kun^
★Seiten Kickoff- tomboy girl and 'popular guy'-type but hes head over heels for her
★Empress of another world- drama, romance, doesnt take long for him to fall for her and she becomes his priority in everything, also smart and strong mc thats not a pushover
★Koroshi Ai- interesting, about assassins, not fluff exactly but its different and has cute moments. The guy is very protective and devoted.
★ Kare Kano- rollercoaster in a good way, deep stuff, character growth and developments etc so not ideal for a quick light read (but it does have a lot of great comedic moments that makes it not too heavy)
★Ase to Sekken- interesting, a bit pervy and lowkey contains adult themes
★Ichirei Shite, Kiss
★Mizutama Puzzle- guy falls first, dedicated
★HUBBY BUNNY- nsfw warning, contains adult themes
