What the fuck is this shit...

This was so good. It was the first truly realistic yaoi i’ve read in so long. The character development was amazing and it was less about the drama, and more about the characters growing together. It depicted mental illness perfectly, that some days will be better than others, and that they both realized their problems and worked them out together. I loved it so much. The ending was satisfying and left you feeling fulfilled. It wasn’t too short and rushed, or drawn out. 10/10!

I keep coming back to this story...I love the art style so much. We can only hope the author eventually releases another manga ;-;

The author clearly didn’t know how she wanted to end this. So much more could have been done...

I cried so much over the ending. I sobbed for longer than I had over any manga/ anime. As much as I hate the ending, I respect it. Ash could have called for help, but at the end of the day, it wouldn't have changed anything. We could all hope that Eiji would go back to New York one day and they could live happily, but realistically it just wouldn't be the case. Ash would keep doing the things that he despised himself over, and at least this way it ends the cycle of self-destruction. He would always have nightmares that kept him up and night, and he would always worry about Eiji. This way Ash can rest truly in piece. I loved all parts of Banana Fish, but It pains me to admit that the fact that Ash died when we least expected him to, is the thing that will stick with me most. Eiji and Ash both deserved better. After all that suffering Ash deserved to be happy, but at least this way he could rest and stop being continuously tormented by his past. This manga was so heart wrenching. It was absolutely marvelous, and I am left so empty by it.

I just finished this manga and am in love. I’ve never read a manga that so realistically portrayed lgbt people and struggles. It wasn’t fetishizing, or trying to make that characters a certain way to appeal to an audience. It was raw, and so fucking thought provoking. It made me think about things in ways I hadn’t before. Does anyone have any recommendations for mangas that are similar to this?

Why don’t you guys just read it on webtoon? It’s free, the cropping is better, the chapters come out earlier, and you’re supporting the artist. I know it seems stupid, but as someone whose followed this webtoon since the beginning, it seems a little disrespectful to the artist when it’s literally free for you guys to read...

    Honestly, it's better not to upload any chapters on this website when it's right there on webtoon.

XenoBiotic February 22, 2020 3:02 am

That ending was a little abrupt, but I wasn’t terrible per say....
