Damn skippy Clark hated Alex at the end. He never thought of Alex as anything more than interesting toy to play with until he was bored with him. Then Alex killed the doctor who Clark loved as much as it is possible for someone like him to love. That's why Clark went to kill Alex and made him as miserable as possible when he did it.
I agree. I never once thought that Clark loved Alex. From what I could see, Clark was deeply in love with the Doctor. I interpreted Alex's murder as revenge for killing Clark's most precious person
