Yaoi and BL are two different things. Yaoi is hentai. Whether you like it or not. BL is love between men in a pure form with concent 99% of the time. What you are reading here is yaoi. Yaoi is well known for nonconcent. A lot of people are not educated on the difference in genres that’s why many Mangas that are healthy are put in the yaoi genre. I 100% agree on the nonconcent part of the genre is toxic but you guys need to stop bitching about it cuz THATS inside of yaoi a lot of the time. You guys need to know what genre your reading before you’re complaining about it. When I want to read about pure love, I go to shounen-ai (BL but without dirty scenes most of the time) If you are sticking with yaoi, shut your mouths and expect it to happen. If not, switch to shounen ai.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree on what everyone is saying but it’s like reading a hentai manga and people are complaining about certain sexual scenes. It can’t be helped if different authors have different fantasies and it should be expected since it is hentai.
I’m posted this comment specifically to educate others on the difference. Yuri on ice is obviously considered a BL not a yaoi. I cringe when it’s called a yaoi even though it’s not their faults because the communication on the subject is lacking. When people say yaoi oversexualizes, it makes sense but BL has really good messages. (YOI is a good example because they focus more on real emotions then pleasure.) Please help spread the word that it’s two different genres. I’m sick and tired of BL being frowned upon because people think yaoi is the same thing :^/
As long as you are not killing anyone or actually inflicting rape, it’s fine. People can’t change your preferences. Yaoi is yaoi and there’s different sexual genres within the genre.

"BL" and "yaoi" are the same thing. BL a.k.a boys love is the umbrella term, while yaoi is a category under it.
There are two general categories under BL:
Yaoi = boys love with mild to explicit sex scenes
shounen-ai = boys love with none to minimal/implied sex scenes
Though yes, if translated literally, "shounen-ai" means "boy[s] love" (bl), the two terms apparently have different uses and ARE interchangable:
shounen-ai = boys love (bl)
yaoi = boys love (bl)
but:
yaoi =/= shounen-ai
These are all japanese terms btw.
Forgot to mention, the yaoi category includes pwp (porn without plot) and those that HAVE actual plot - as long as it's boy's love and has mild to explicit sex scenes, it is yaoi.
Though there can't be pwp in shounen-ai, there can be pretty shallow/bad written ones (￣∇￣")

I see this argument a lot, but it's a strawman. When people comment on this chapter about what he did to the uke, they're just expressing their negative opinion and saying how they felt, no one is even talking about the genre. You are the one talking about the genre. We all know what Yaoi has in it. It's just people discussing what happened in the story. "oh, he just sexually assaulted him in his sleep, that really creeped me out". Stuff like that. It's no different from posting positive thoughts. In the 1st place, i don't see the logic in your argument. "you knew it was a possibility you'd see this so you can't be surprised"? If you go into, say, Taco Bell, there is always the possibility that when you open the restroom door you'll find shit everywhere. Are you not supposed to react since you chose to go to Taco Bell? It'd be one thing if this topic was aimed SPECIFICALLY at the one posting topics like "i'm sick of reading rape" and stuff like that as in that case you'd be giving them advice since they're bringing it on themselves, but there is nothing indicating this topic is at any specific group of people. The topic is generalized.
