What type relationships the author themselves are into because???? This goes past masochism, this is just verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. I get the whole “what people write doesn’t mean that they endorse it” but like…what’s the point of having this person be so shitty other than frustrating the readers to the point where they no longer even like him after a so-called redemption era, whenever that may be (maybe the real S & M relationship is between the author and us readers since they keep doing this….)
I don’t know if it’s worse or better that at this point it feels as thought the abusive nature isn’t being sexualized like in other manga (never thought I would say that in my life bc I don’t like the rape trope. I think it’s stupid and unnecessary). Actually, it shows up in sex scenes, but feels incredibly unsexy. In fact, I’m going to be bold and say none of the sex scenes feel sexy because I’m too busy boiling with rage at Asshole #1 In The World(TM) to even appreciate the artwork sometimes. In some way, him being some random “normal” person with that abusive personality instead of a hit man or a serial killer is somehow worse if that even makes any sense at all
When the abusive top has better consent when he’s (supposedly) drunk. Like wow, he had to intoxicated for the MC to feel SAFE enough to ask him to do it in a way that was enjoyable for both of them…
The way we all went from the previous chapter going ??? TOP??? TOPPING?? Oooohh!!!?? To immediate disappointment and a bit of horror/sadness
What was the point of this story lol, completely confusing. I’m guessing the gist is she got drunk and forgot the convo they had last night but uh…so what about that?
And we’ve all grieved his loss of never being the main lead, I’m already liking the childhood friend more than the main lead idk why but I can’t seem to build any interest for the ML in the story/dreams
I’m not usually one who wants the FL to be all goody two-shoes (in fact that tends to annoy the hell out of me) but before she randomly (at least it seemed that way to me) turned on a switch that said “I’m going to pretend to act crazy now” it felt actually a little horrific which was great. The thing with him staring down the silver-hair while she punctured her throat with the spear was honestly a little dreadful.
I actually thought for a hot sec that it was going to take a turn and he’d suddenly switch to a different tune. Maybe him chaining (figuratively, or maybe not -shrug- lol) the FL to him so she wouldn’t be able to leave him bc he’s so obsessed with her and her having this horrid realization that she’s never been in control all along and now what is she going to do since the ML is going to be king one day and she’s got to stop him….or something idk lol.
I guess I suddenly thought it switched to an interesting psychological horror twist but nah, we got a lady unable to actually get a good revenge bc the dude basically died peacefully in his sleep via gas or smth and her actual revenge turned out it to be doing a (weird) monologue over a dead corpse. Oh yeah, and then deciding it was a good time to fuck in the same room as said corpse. Huh….
Maybe the author wanted to subvert expectations or smth bc these types of stories usually have a big shebang of a conclusion and they wanted to surprise the audience but it fell a short for me personally -shrug-
Personally I love how it’s taking it’s time for the romance. I’ve read so many of these types of stories where within the 10th chapter they already have feeling and are hit by Cupid’s arrow….somehow?? Even tho they’ve only known each other for a week in-story or something whereas here the time that’s passed does feel real because of the gradual changes in relationships amongst the many members of the family. But I like this. It satisfies my desire for plot (it’s actually a relatively interesting plot and not so convoluted that it makes you wonder if the author even knew what they were going for) + the scenes and the art do such a good job at making the dreadful/heart wrenching events feel that much more heavy.
It’s very realistic in that of course she wouldn’t immediately be swooning, she’s got basically plates full of stuff to worry about. Not to mention the whole him being responsible for her death directly multiple times & albeit indirectly and not his fault, her father’s. Also, her husband has some emotional communication problems (fortunately not in a frustrating way but in a very relatable/within reasonable means). It’s not even that he’s being obvious and she’s stupid (thank god), there just isn’t any sort of sign until recently that he’s viewing her in a rosy light. They’ve had time to get to know each other and how they treat the people around them and /that’s/ why they’re leaning into each other, rather than damn they’re hot/pretty which is great and all, but tiring if that’s the entire plot for 50+ different manga/manhwa…
Anyway, this long ass rant just to say that it’s been a while since I’ve come across a romance manhwa where the characters actually feel like people bc you can empathize/sympathize with their perspective, know their motives and values, and just like average joe people in the real world, struggle with their emotions and past
I know he had the problem at the clinic and that’s why he didn’t come on time but damn the unreasonable part of me wants her to be sulky and play a little hard to get with the guy (mostly bc I want him to worriedly chase her instead bc he’s an asshole lol)
When they not only put the blanket on them but then proceeded to roll them up like a terrible burrito so that they couldn’t escape
The sigh of relief that I had when he said “sugar dating” bc I was like aint no way you’re talking about an actual father??? Please???
For a moment I forgot how toxic and immoral this plot was bc of the art and I almost gave the guy credit bc he switched positions when he noticed and then asked if it hurt (aka the bare minimum). I was literally almost touched, like a dumbass. As if this isn’t about two stepbrothers fucking, with one of them being under hypnosis…
You just get so used to semes’ being like “that’s okay if it hurts, it doesn’t matter to me/you’ll get over it” (even if they’re bleeding!!) that one example of scant consideration from a seme has you losing memory of the horrible plot
We’ll get the FL/Yuri isekai story we deserve I’m so tired of authors including a female character who “falls” for the MC (although they put it in a joking way, tho they do lay in thick with the jealousy in some stories) but then they do nothing with it :c not that this story is the one that I particularly want it for, but you know some variety would be nice
I kinda knew they would assimilate since I saw the tie to a personality disorder, but that doesn’t stop me from being disappointed. As someone that’s working towards a psych degree, it’s super unrealistic, but not even in a satisfying way if that makes sense. I’m not saying that stories need to be 100% realistic all the time, but if the story’s main conflict is about mental health, you’d think they’d do more research /: I was kinda hoping they’d be different and keep the second personality (if they wanted to be interesting, have him take over although that’s not exactly the ideal for real life situations) but alas. Literally reminds me of every kdrama I’ve seen that has DID where they make the second personality more interesting(not necessarily better) or more appealing and then they realize they have to backtrack and suddenly show more of the “OG” personality bc they want them to assimilate for their rainbows and unicorn ending…
