Because it's a homophobic country and they don't have laws to support gay marriage. You should not find that weird because it's not happening in your country.

Ma'am and/or sir, I don't know why you seem angry at me. I understand the sentiment of becoming part of the family since like you said, marriage isn't an option. I was only stating my opinion from someone's perspective who has been adopted. Obviously my situation wasn't with a lover, so I don't know those feelings, I can only state from my own experience. I didn't say it was a bad thing, it's just an aspect of that book where people coming from different walks of life will have different feelings on the matter

I'm not angry. Dw. But every time this thing comes up in a story I see a lot of comments like these. I always wanted to say that please don't mind it. And please don't put yourself or self insert so you won't feel weirded out.

*Long explanation into my thoughts since I feel you may be misunderstanding where I am coming from and I'd just like to be clear*
I wasn't self inserting, but rather thinking about the logistics as someone who's gone through the system for adoption (more than once). I tend to be able to suspense my beliefs when reading so that I can enjoy stories fully, but sometimes when it's something I'm knowledgeable in, my brain can't help but return to reality Like in some countries where LGBTQ+ couples are still banned from marriage, they can still adopt a child together and therefore be legal guardians and through that process get some benefits as if they were married. And I know adopting a child isn't always doable for people, nor should a child ever be used as a tool. So just thinking about what adopting someone means in terms of family compared to what having a lover be your family is, and it just doesn't go together in my thoughts. So that's why I said I'd just think about it in a different way (i.e. marriage certificate) to help suspend my beliefs.
I wasn't trying to hate on the story or anything if that's how it came off. I quite enjoyed this story.

No I understand that you weren't hating on the story. Just thinking why some might find it weird due to their own environment and experience. I get why you may find this awkward haha. I also find a lot of stuff that's casually mentioned in Western novels weird cause I'm not really habituated with their lifestyle. But yes I just put it in the back of my mind and move on ig. Also this manhwa is in 2021. So that matters too ig.

I just want to interject. You can’t tell someone how to read or enjoy or relate to a story! Some things are strange based on your life experience so a person is allowed to state that you could have ignored the comment or tried to be more understanding of someone who is not of that culture.

It’s a fictional story with a fictional loophole that is weird regardless of culture, it’s weirdness is what allows it to exist because no one would think someone is adopting someone as their child in order to “marry” them. You’re upset because you think someone is being rude to that culture but it’s just a story someone made up so grow up and stop trying to stop someone from having their own thoughts about A FICTIONAL STORY. Good day.

its not a loophole haha, its a real thing that gay couples do in coutries like korea (as someone who is korean) and they do it because for example: sometimes, ur not allowed to be someones guardian in the hospital if they get into a coma/accident/have a surgery, unless u are family in korea! and since gay couples cant get married, they are legally not a family and therefore cannot be there for their partner. gay couples adopt their partner in cases like these

I think what you mean to say is it not “fictional” but it is in fact a loophole which is basically a way of using something outside of its intended purpose.

oops yeah i meant to say its not a fictional loophole!! its a real thing which may sound weird but its the only way gay couples can get certain marriage privileges which is actually really sad
Lol I was questioning why I had such a different experience with this story than others, but then I remembered my ass literally skipped throughout the story and therefore missed a good part of nonsense. But the story was actually good if you skip a majority of the plot
Adopting your lover kinda weird to me (as someone who's adopted) so imma act like those were marriage papers

I'm responding to you. The same logic applies to everyone. About being understanding about other cultures.
