Just saw the movie and I had the unhealthy need to re-read this. Knowing what comes next Umibe no Etranger and how good it gets... I'm crying, I adore this manga so so so much.

Compared to most "toxic" semes, Taehwan is not even as bad or controversial as the rest of them (so far). Furthermore, I think the reasons for his future attitude are deeply rooted in something so human and commonplace that more than a "redemption" arc, Taehwan's story will be about dealing with his sexuality. It's great that he is paired with a character like Yeonwu, who is also a person in conflict due to the same topic and the way he sees himself. I really like this pair, although they are the purest BL format of all time.
yeah im confused on why people think Taehwan's needs a redemption arc at all. what has he done so wrong? telling Yeonwoo to leave him alone cause he believes Yeonwoo betrayed his trust in the past (thats not a spoiler, Yeonwoo has implied on at least two occasions that this is what happened between him and Tae in highschool) and we can see in the bar scene he has trust issues and its why he shuts down HARD after finding out that the two people he's closest to kept such a big secret from him for months...like thats what he needs to acknowledge within himself and also to see that Yeonwoo isnt his enemy (just like he was able to talk it out and make peace with Dojin and Taehee in the end) and as much remember what made hime become so close to (and comfortable with) Yeonwoo in the first place. so yeah its def going to be a process for him, but he doesnt need to learn to how to be a decent person cause he already IS and he's perfectly capable of being kind ot Yeonwoo he just closed his heart off to him because of something that occured between them that we dont know yet. rather than a boring redemtion of an asshole arc, we're going to be getting an arc thats about Healing instead. (def wish we had more plots about characters overcoming trauma and being happier once they've worked thru that than al the stories we get in BL of guys enduring trauma to keep the story Exciting or w/e ugh)
Exactly! Not because a character has some similarities with others does it mean that they are automatically having the same arc or ideals. Taehwan is actually quite a nice guy but, like you said, when he thinks people have betrayed his trust, he becomes cold and resentful ... The worst part is that Yeonwoo thinks he deserves it. Taehwan didn't make him believe that tho, that's how he is. Nonetheless, their relationship is something they agreed on and neither Taehwan nor Yeonwoo force themselves to it, they just have tons of healings and misunderstandings to deal with because as the story progresses, it's obvious how attracted Taehwan is to Yeonwoo and vice versa. As for him, he needs confidence to talk about the past and solve his problems, that does not mean that he should become a form of therapy, but someone that Taehwan can trust, although he is not always pleased with all of his actions. They have potential >>
Yeonwoo pls at least dissimulate a little lmfaooooo
