It's connected to the childhood friend's background and why he ends up being orphan.
There is a tradition to choose a spirit user to conduct some ceremony once per few years. That years, the mc get chosen even though usually the one get chosen is girl from upper nobility. And the knight who becomes her partner/guardian is...our demon knight.
The plot more to mc learning manners, then there is some incident where spirit user disappear. From there the mc realized something about his childhood friend, and someone actually told about his secret.

When he still a little kid Reiss's (ML) family got killed because a woman who felt in love with his father. That woman is demon contractor. Then she force contract ML with demon. As how demon contractor need to pay something before he gained the power of demon, the woman chose so ML will fulfill the contract if he killed the person he really love. Basically, ML forgot about this for a while until some incident at his birthday, he remembered what the woman said...
And the next you know is when the mc heard ml said he hated her.
And we get to know that there is a reason why ml got chosen as guardian.

The pope know that Reiss is a forced demon contractor. There is an item which can subdued the demonic power in him, but that item can only held by the guardian.
And the next they conduct the ceremony and tried to solve Reiss's problem.

Im reading the novel and its only 10 chapters in and the last 2 made me cry its so sad and heart warming on how the story is going! I want more its just so cute ShuShu deserve to be loved!

Pretty much chapter 9 is her finally having a proper meal since she has been abuse and starved in the orphanage for so long badly neglected to the point her body rejected the food and gave her a really bad stomach pain and throws up the food and passes out for 2 days. Chapter 10 is pretty much the duke and his 2 sons worrying about Shushu thinking that its there curse that caused her to pass out for being to close to them but as she takes a bath the handmaid asked her if she felt uncomfortable being around them and she explain that its the first times someone is being so kind to her as she only felt was hate and pain she runs to the duke and the oldest son who avoided her touch thinking he will her hurt again and she grabs both there hands and explain how much she likes them and that she wanted to keep being with them after the misunderstanding the handmaid put her in a cute pajamas and shes showing it off to the duke and he calls her cute and its just so wholesome.
Im just crying like a little girl. ╥﹏╥ i want more chapters

They don't get to take out the bullet yet but some how Cain is able to recover because of the Uke. They all get out safely from the attacks thanks to Cain but the Uke is unconscious and Cain leave him to the Doctor to heal him and takes off to fight the enemy.

Well in the chapter other than this one it doesn't show any romance. Theres no love whatsoever just a bunch of fights with zombies and characters development which i really like and its really a good Manhaw. I just think his sincerely worried for Sherry but like no love in it.
