The flashback sequence was agonizingly long, but ever since we got back to the present, the story and art has been getting worse and worse in quality. What's next? Stick figures? A lot of the characters are nearly unrecognizable at this point. I just don't get why the author invested so much into the flashbacks only to do this after.
The thing is this story is likely written by a straight cisgender woman, and their understanding of the lgbtqa+ community is obviously limited in many ways. Honestly, the yaoi community is sadly pretty behind in its understanding and acceptance of lgbtqa+. I know part of it is cultural. There’s a lot of people from a lot of countries which are behind in these aspects— Japan included—, but I mean, you are online, you have access to information. Get woke. Do some reading. Don’t make unsubstantiated claims from anecdotal evidence or personal beliefs. Trans people exist. There are plenty of trans people in Japan— whether they are out or otherwise. An unaccepting society isn’t exactly an environment that is conducive for people to come out or even get past their denials and recognize things themself. Yes, this is fictional, and the author may not be intending to convey that this character is trans, but as the author is limited by their own ignorance, they might not understand what they are implying in these actions, and at his point in the story, the character definitely seems to be transgender. As someone who has read a lot of yaoi though, I have to say that this author actually seems to be one of the more knowledgeable ones which goes to show the sad state of things.
Honestly, I think this is one of the better representations. Yes, some of the implications of the actions are ignorant, but that could also be because the characters have that ignorance. As the two start to date and the trans character gets more development, the characters interacting with her will also develop. That can be more helpful for the reader to do their own growth along side the characters. They aren't starting with malicious intent, just not knowing better. Much like many of the readers.
That dude was legitimately crazy. There should’ve been a trial here— at the very least a restraining order— like whoa.
I know we’re playing this for laughs and all, but it’s wild how the author just with straight up went with the “I’m the only one who will ever love you like this” move... That’s just ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I kind of hope that the author will address Yuri's relationship with his oldest sister. They are both pretty broken because of their parents, but I think they could understand eachother better and work on their bond as siblings if they tried.
