Well MOST of this story on this website only gets attention because it's male x male romance. And then many of them only get attention because it's male x male romance with explicit content.
And other stories "only" get attention because it's about sports. Others will "only" get attention because the characters are hot. Or "only" because it's about yakuza.
Point is, we all have our reasons to read this or that manga and it's pretty closed minded and incorrect to act like sexual content is a bad reason. Because there is no good reasons to read a manga.

KM has always been very popular, even without the smut, it won 1st most popular shounen-ai in lezhin US alone, not counting korean fans, I'm pretty sure those who only came here for the smut won't exceed those who had followed this from the beginning, since this is already very famous anyway...and also there's a chance they will also be intrigued to read the whole story after this. The plot and art was top-notch after all
literally the majority of yaoi IS just porn and about sex. and the plot is there to string the sex scenes together. like the main diff between yaoi and shounen ai type BL stories is one has sex and the other doesnt. now not all bl stories with sex are porny and just have maybe one or two sex scenes in the entire volume (perhaps even very short ones). so some are more plotty than sexual but most of them? like...cmon now. u dont need to assign some deep meaning to BL manga cause it and most of the korean bl webtoons are there to essentially be porn aimed at (straight) female readers. and thats why most of it is also written by straight women. it is there TO BE a form of erotic fantasy. some of them transcend it by having a great story and thats awesome. those are the ones that stick with them vs something i read to cause its smutty and then forget about 10 mins later. a good story will keep people even if they only came for smut. whereas mediocre smut will only work for so long. this is a long series. even if someone came up in here ONLY for the fucking why does that matter? if it gets more eyes on the story and u believe it is a Good story that more people should read then is that not also a good thing? if the author gets more fans and hopefully money paid to her thru some horny fangirls is that a bad thing? i just fail to see what the issue is here? just live and let live. (and again..there's not nearly enough sex in this to satisfy someone who ONLY cares about sex anyway).

Tbh I’m talking from my point of view. Just like the painter of the night. I read around 20 chapters before stopping. I’m triggered by rape a lot and I was interested in the story enough to keep going. But at one point I just thought that I couldn’t handle it anymore, from the rape itself to the people in the comments, it was too much.
And I stopped. That’s it. Idk why this doesn’t make sense to you. Reading a manga does not make you entitled to read the rest of the story.
