I REALLY tried to give this a chance. Even made it 8 chapters somehow. I hate the male lead more than any male lead I've ever encountered.
For 1, the disrespect? The low opinion and presumption of her... based on? Despite the blatant signs of her previous abuse? How dare he just assume she's a snob and R*PE her on their first night?! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧ Her situation was so obvious but he persists in acting like an id*ot, even with the assumption she just hated him, even with how obviously it could cause problems if he walked out after "she agreed" to the marriage, f*cker still said yolo "we must do our marital duties" and pretended to give her a way out. Am I supposed to believe he's too sheltered to figure out her obvious lack of power as a woman in this situation?
He even says he doesn't care if she says no he "just cant stop himself".
All he does is cuss and act hella aggressive too *vomits* thats his whole entire fricking personality!
He really treats her like dirt the first few chapters too. It even shows her passing out from the pain as he was on top of her, I wish I was in this manhwa so i could k*** this guy and take her for myself and treat her with the respect she deserves, or PLEASE, if they had just given me a second male lead to focus on I might have been able to keep going.
Also he treats his servants/ others with the same level of disdain and disrespect he treats her with at first/ which he still treats her with hella disrespect by ch.8, but "caring-ly" and this poor girl who never received common human decency before thinks its great.

um i think ur reading a bit too into it?? or maybe u just read a different story?? the first night he clearly asked whether she wanted him to leave or not she said no and he assumed that she was just nervous where did u get this “r*pe” assumption from. and it’s true that he is wrong in assuming that she’s a snob but i don’t think it’s bad to the point u make it seem. and i don’t remember when he said he didn’t care whether she said no or not i can’t remember if that happend but as far as i remember it didn’t. also tho he is a bit cold to his servants i think he still respects them and that’s why he works so hard for his castle and such. please don’t be mad at me defending him i just feel like you’ve completely misread his character.

You really can't blame him for having those thoughts because he was a commoner and had experiences of nobles being a dick.
Again, the setting is where there are nobles, aristocracy, and of the sort. So he just thinks that her actions are common for people who are children of nobility. He doesn't know and I do agree that he is dense, however you can't blame him for having those thoughts. So he assumes all noble children are spoiled, rotten, and brought up luxuriously by their parents.
Well he is a big man, any woman who he does it with him will pass out. And I do agree he should've been gentle with her.
So what if he cusses? There's nothing wrong with that.
He can't stop himself because "spoiler" he covets her even before they even wed. So he's hella head over heels for her, because he saw her one time in the garden of her father's estate.
Try reading the novel.

You’re lowkey stupid, are you even reading the same story?
One. They’re in a aristocracy and the father played good dad in public for YEARS. He obviously thinks she’s lived a good and wealthy life. On top of that, he’s been mistreated by nobles for a very long time.
Two, he didn’t rape her. They were both sober and he asked for consent TWICE. He never forced her into it and made sure she knew that if she said no, he would stop.
Three, he isn’t a sheltered kid. He’s actually the opposite and nobles have mistreated him. Both females and males so his first assumption of a noble is that they have pride. And that’s why he thinks he has to give her the best life.
Four, if he cusses and yells, that’s his business, he’s not even abusive towards her.
Five, When TF did he treat her like dirt? He literally came to pick her up and was always protecting her. He misunderstood because he literally called her to come to their house and she never came nor replied. So he thought she didn’t want to be there. That’s why he was pissed. But when she told him that it wasn’t like that, he dropped it. And they sorted it out.
Six, he is completely unaware of her abuse. He has never dealt with abuse victims nor has he been informed about it. It’s a different time, people aren’t aware of abuse signs. So to blame him is fucking weird

I agree with you on several points, although I don't hate him as much simply because I've encountered worse. I do find him unlikeable and lacking in depth (even for this type of manhwa), it's hard to do otherwise when he pretty much places his horniness above all else lol. But as you can see from many of the comments and replies, this kind of aggressive, pseudo-romantic behaviour in male leads are not only common but quite welcome, so ratings are really not a surprise. ╮( ̄Д ̄)╭

I think whoever the og complainer have red too many angst on one day and mixed them all in a pot with a shot of vodka. I always wonder why people even bother complaining about THE obvious thing about a story that supposed to be build THAT way. If you don't like it, that's your opinion, if ya rant about it, you just look dumb.

You agree that he’s a rapist? He’s aggressive yes. But he’s nice to her. In the beginning, there was a misunderstanding between them. That’s why he was mad. He never raped her. Yes she felt violated, but consent was asked and he never forced her into. It’s her maids n father that forced her into doing that because they had planted the idea that she HAD to do that. Plus he notices when she gets scared. Not a lot in beginning, but he gradually started to notice that she gets scared and he calms down or tries to talk to her immediately. And also even if his assumption about her isn’t right, his misunderstanding is justified. Her father played good dad for years and her father’s castle is ten times more beautiful than his. He obviously thinks she had a good life. To top it off, nobles bully commoners. They bullied him. That’s why he thinks most of them have the same lifestyle. If Max wanted to, she could tell him, but she didn’t and allowed him to continue to think that w/o clearing the misunderstanding. But somehow all this falls on him. That doesn’t make any sense.

And because we’re focusing on Max, we’re not going to get depth of his character yet. But the country literally threw him in war when he was a child and nobles bullied him as a child. That’s where he gets his aggressive personality from. His character makes perfect sense. He might seem shallow but he’s not.

Re: rapist issue - I hope you realise that other than a 'yes!' nothing else really means consent. Even if we disregard that (sigh) saying things like "endure it" and "I won't be able to stop" is not exactly a sure sign of a nice guy, only a brute with no self-control. A lot of people keeps bringing up the father here but like ? he plays no part in their sex life.
Re: quality of character - they don't necessarily need development to be established as interesting or compelling. So far this dude falls squarely on the 'typical' side just with more questionable traits, so my points stand.
You say "If Max wanted to, she could tell him, but she didn’t and allowed him to continue to think that w/o clearing the misunderstanding" Except she's the one who was abused practically her whole life and then forced to go through painful and terrifying sex without knowing how anything works beforehand, so uh...no, she couldn't just 'tell him' (you should probably focus a bit more on HER character which is canon, instead of arbitrarily redeeming his which, as you say yourself, hasn't been explored much in the story). So yeah "somehow all this falls on him" since he is supposedly the all around good-guy.
Of course if all that floats your boat, by all means enjoy. But if you want something better
that *actually* deals with abuse with an *actual* nice guy, try Ebony.

Okay. He didn’t rape her. She consented to it. The reason why I brought the father is because they made her feel like it was necessary to submit to her husband and have sex with him. That’s why she didn’t say no.
Two, I didn’t mean that Max had to tell him. I understand why she doesn’t, but that doesn’t make him a bad person. My intention was never to make it seem like it was easy for her to tell him. But how does him misunderstanding make him a bad person?
Three, because he’s an aggressive person and they live around loud people, he thinks that she’s scared of those people, not having trauma. He isn’t even mean to her. I still don’t understand why you think he’s mean to her. He keeps trying to give her a good life. Whenever he notices she’s scared, he calms down and tries to talk to her. I don’t know how you’re skipping over all that.

Thank you! A person of common sense! *mind blown* The most apparent issue with this to me was, he could have offered to stay in the room without the walking out and thereby annulling the marriage option. So he gave her two choices: I leave (obviously an issue) or you sleep with me, along with the way he was acting and everything you said, there is quite obviously a consent issue here. He even says he won't listen to her (a clueless virgin!) if she wants to stop?!?!

First of all, it makes me genuinely uncomfortable to interact with those who defend this kind of problematic behaviour - even in fictional scenarios - so I'm not going to respond anymore after this. As I said before, if this is what you like, carry on.
Re: consent - have you heard of dubious consent? I'm just going to copy a bit of something I saw below:
"If the consent is dubious...then it’s not consent. The implication being that it’s rape.
There is outright, straightforward consent, where both the man and the woman absolutely, positively want sex and say so out loud, and never question it throughout or after the act. Then there is outright, straightforward rape, where either one or the other does not want sex, and says so, and fights back, and reports it after as rape. Both of these cases are as clear as day, but there is a whole lot of gray area in between.
For example, what if a woman consents to sex but changes her mind? What if she consents to sex but the man is too rough? What if she never verbalizes the word “no” or fights back, but she is thinking them the entire time?" Sound like someone?
Any of these 'grey areas' - by the very virtue of being 'grey' and therefore unclear - are non-consensual sex, usually termed rape. But even if you pedantically don't want to call it that, it's just as terrible and absolutely toxic to base relationships on, because it would be founded on abuse.
The reason I'm "skipping over" his bare minimum 'kindness' is because it's irrelevant - there has been no apology or redemption for earlier behaviour i.e. their first night.
And you say blame the author for this?
Of course I do! Who do you think made him?!

i dont like how convenient things are for the villain and how easily he seems to manipulate people, it just doesn't make sense... Especially sense white hair dude seemed so smart. &She should have just said something to the Emperor and had him imprisoned under suspicion so he couldn't cause more trouble while she figured him out. At least put guards on him at all times after witnessing him injure a member of the royal family. Same with the escort, they could have just had 2 guards escort them and BAM plans foiled/ murder averted. It's obvious if you suspect him to do that... Her decree could have been imprisonment too and she could have questioned her later on (╯°Д °)╯╧╧

Is it...?
Candidate A: Royal/ Playboy vibes/ don't piss me off vibes/ smart/ nice collar bones? livin' that acne free life?
Candidate B: Mysterious/ Honorable/ Pure as the Driven Snow/ Secretly a Badass Wizard/ Usually Serious (hence the gap moe)/ Kind/ Smart/ A Romantic
Wow I WONDER who FL is gunna end up with? (● ̄(エ) ̄●) Im sure it'll make sense!

She should just kill him! He's not even emperor yet and he's too much of a threat. Then the sister would take over and she's probably not going to be as greedy/ douche-y/ trying so hard to start a war.
She's probs gunna regret not ending him later when he's all vulnerable~ though I am guessing he might have a way out of this since he's so sly ( ̄へ ̄)

This story would have been way better if the jellyfish guy wasn’t so: childlike/ didn’t know anything, it makes everything feel gross. It would have been cool if he was like a super cute~ vampire type that has a lot of wisdom and knowledge but he could still be all cute and fluffy at the same time..

Its over and I'm crying. I cried through the whole last chapter after i found out they were together and everyone lived happily ever after. Sensei thought she could fool me pulling a "Paradise Kiss" but NOPE. Best coming of age story I've ever read/ watched/seen. I couldn't stop reading from the first page. Wish I could give 1000/10.
This story goes from heavy to light hearted drama in an extremely realistic way. Everything about this is so fascinating and realistic and human and real. I LOVE the way the author portrays these characters with their troubles/ flaws/ emotions and doesn’t paint them as perfect people. I fell in love with the story around chapter 8 and all the characters by chapter 11, although the tomboy mc has a special place in my heart as the most relatable (except the whole masochist/voyeur bit but I’m sympathetic to it), although they’re all really relatable in their own ways. Not to mention this story has one of the best love triangle I've ever witnessed.
After Ch.35 I wanted to marry the author. I haven’t felt the presence of genius like this since Koogi Sensei. Although it’s a different (less dark) type of genius, more reality based around just your average-unaverage people. I wish this story could continue. Also Kaito is best girl and ultimate waifu.
Avenge Undie. I don't want to hear any excuses.

Also, what if at one point she slays a dragon and Ray takes over it's form? Wouldn't she be so OP at that point literally no one could challenge her? Like if she wanted she could rule everything and [more importantly] avenge Undie. I'm just saying...
Well she befriended a mother and son duo... The son helped her and made Ray really OP. Lol the dragon was collecting treasures and i guess the dragon just randomly throw this really important stone lol
