it always irks me how in korean bls the top is always superior to the bottom, if it isn’t economically it’s usually physically or socially. The top will always be stronger or smarter or richer and that totally bugs me cause i can count in one hand the number of bls where the pair is on equal standing and the bottom isn’t in a disadvantaged position which forces the relationship to be unbalanced af. i think that’s why i prefer japanese bl when it comes to plot or characters because they are so much more nuanced and developed they always feel like real people (and the usual lack of sa of coerced sex is also a plus)

most bl I read nowadays have the the following premise: the uke is living his calm perfect life and then here arrives the man that will ruin his entire existence (the seme) what happened to two people falling in love smfh

Literally, like what happened to DRAMA and not straight up assault? Authors will add the most graphic unnecessary drawn out rape scenes and people in the comments would read our dislike of it with a straight face and just tell us to stop reading it if it’s not our cup of tea. Like yall are these reason authors are sacrificing plot of straight up porn.
And can I really be mad at that? I know what I was signing up for when I read but this shit is so tiring. Atp we’re reading the same plots over and over with no good substance or memorable story lines. And this is why I got so much hate for saying BJ Alex is mid and so is jinx. We have to be honest with ourselves guys they’re literally just porn plots. Forgive me for actually wanting a piece of media that demonstrates a genuine relationship rather than fostering agonism. Take SIGN for example, or 19 days, kings maker, blood bank, or never understand or even nanohana boys. At least if you’re going to add rape to the plot make it critical like in a cruel god reigns or kings maker.
But that’s just my two cents before I rant fr fr

Nothing wrong with ranting a bit, that's good for the moral and the com. scet. is there for this.
I've never dropped so many readings because they're too much but at the same time have too little substance and romance. And yeah, they end up looking the same with the practically the same archetype rich ML; authors know what made a manhwa popular, popular, so instead of being creative they just use the same recipe, that's why we get this now... Nowadays, any shonen-ai can have more passion and tension than a hardcore, smut yaoi. Shonen-ai contain a proper plot most of the time and are more focused on developping the relationship of the two guys, telling about some drama or peripeties if there was any than just showing sex scenes, that often are more fan-service than actual sex between two (consenting) lovers.
There's nothing worse than two people ending up together despite having no chemistry together, or they ending up together because they're meant to be (by the supreme will of author) or because one was raped too much he's "started to love it" (mind-broken).
What is absent is also the e-ro-ti-za-tion of what is supposed to be a sexy reading (BL, Yaoi). When there's nothing but rape and SA that are not even hidden behind a thin romance (like our old yaoi mangas) and the ML just shoves his d*ck in the a** of MC, I don't know about you but I can't, I can't eat that...
It is a fact (though) that most yaoi viewers today just consume Yaoi for porn, and don't really care about the plot or romance; this has never been so true since these last years with manwhas webtoons overtaking these "mangas" sites.
I'll add I asked My Deskmate to Beat you in the list of lectures mentioned.
BJ Alex left me cold like an ice and Jinx as well, despite the great progress of art of the author, though BJ Alex had at least an original concept...

genuine question but do authors hate the uke in their stories? I never ever read about the seme being abused, manipulated, gaslit, their lives are never ruined, they never fall in love with abusive assholes who destroy them. So like are authors taking their frustrations out on ukes? not that I wanna read the opposite you know I have to search for hours to find something unproblematic where the seme isn't the biggest piece of shit on the planet, it's getting tiring I guess healthy relationships don't sell as well as toxic shit.

I might go into a tangent so bare with me lol. its a fantasy, more or less. its typically between two reasons. one of the idea is mainly rooted in misogyny that ukes are petite and feminine with a small body are ideal of what ukes should be. playing into a gender role stereotype for men. they get projected hard because people have a notion of who's the woman and the man in the relationship? so then they proceed with the same idea of portraying those roles into stories. it's just a really common trope to begin with in all forms of romance novels or movies, having abusive ideologies converse into "its just possessiveness" when in reality its nothing like that. it just ads another layer with gay people because of the heteronormative idea that there should be a woman in the relationship.

Very very heartbreaking story of seme

A bit hesitant to recommend this, but it’s one of the best things I ever read until I get to the last, like, 10 to 15 chapters—that’s when everything unravels. Honestly, the ending is horrible, but the sexual tension, THE TENSION, yeah…it has that. Unfortunately, that’s all it has. Enjoy!
