Yeah, the heroes is all awful. The male one is that girl elder brother and Haruka's (Jean's sis) boyfriend. At first, I thought he's kinda okay, but no.
He want complete swordsmanship, but for that he need to basic train, and he didn't want to go through hardship at all, so he also had another skill to skip that. And then, he was jealous of a sword master who had a magic sword, so he beat the sword master and steal his sword (this wasn't explicitly said in novel, but I think he also mocked the swordsman, saying he was weak or something and making the swordsman obsessed with strength).
The girl also want a magic sword for "Jin" and Haruka maybe also want a magic bow, so they sent "Jin" to take it from the gold parties adventure (and creating disaster in the process).
They're very egoist and only care about themselves.

hmm I wouldn’t call this an immediate redemption, he hasn’t redeemed himself yet, however, he’s taking the first step to changing himself, it’s the beginning of his redemption arc, one day if he works hard he’ll have redeemed himself and can look those girls in the eyes and apologize for his selfishness, but not right now because he needs to grow, learn, and work first to get there, and he knows that which is why he’s going to try joining what sounds like a knight order, which is probably the best first step he can take on this journey to becoming a better person
