I think it has the same meaning as when they speak in martial arts about the center of ki or something like that. The core you could say of where they store power.
Could also be speaking of that dome he set up for protection

From my perspective, It’s a good adaptation, the pace would probably be lacking if they followed the novel or maybe the writer wanted to shift his focus and streamlined it ?
