For those seeking novel link and/or "other versions" of this series.
Novel link:
OG: https://www.jjwxc.net/onebook.php?novelid=1978725
EN: https://danmeinovel.com/manga/thrive-in-catastrophe/

Other TL
-Back from Death's Door (confirmed with Lilith they're dropping it hence I'm picking it up)
-Thrive in catastrophe

My version (as usual, if you followed my other series)
-includes novel lores
-fixes plot holes or adaptation gaps
-uncensored kiss scenes (no there's no smut in OG Manhua, or should I try drawing it? Hmm, maybe not... )

Enjoy!

I have a question for my readers regarding character name changes.
In this series I've done so but kept Chinese names in romanized form
However, there will be times when direct Romanization is not the best.
1)Authors thoughtless? naming
-using common names 'big/little' Da/Xiao..
-overused name Bai (Baek in manhwa), Xiao, Li, Lin Ling etc.
2) Author's naming turns bad
- it was meaningful in Chinese but Romanization made it sound silly, weird, off
-weird: can't even pronounce it in romanized form
-Off: King Lan Si (not regal), Wen Wen (male mc,action, monster horror theme),
3) Author naming inconsistent
-eg. Cezar's father had a purely Chinese name (He Lu) (when son and imperial name is not Chinese)
4) Author's naming unfitting for theme
-eg. Romeo in a serious action heavy series

When changes are ?necessary
A) change completely (eg. King He Lu to Hieron) if situation is fitting
B) change partially (keep surname but add English name, especially for theme in modern world, space, military, sci-fi genre etc.)
C) tweak Romanized names (Xiao - Hsiao, Wen Wen - Wei Wen)
[If it's unsalvageable, I might decide not to pick it up]
D) Don't change it no matter how bad it is in Romanized form

If you know me/my style by now, you know I don't change stuff without reason. It's all for better readability. Still, that's just my style and I'd like to hear yours.
Between option A-D, which do you prefer or none of the above?

I trust your judgement! Every time you've changed something for this series, I completely agree with your reasoning.

For big/little, da/xiao, i'd like that to remain unchanged if it's an endearment or title. Like da-ge, or xiao-jie. Just because big brother or little lady sound awkward in English as the cultural connotations are different. Hope this made sense!

I personally prefer A or C depending on the genre and setting BUT I put my full trust in the translator, only thing is if the names are REALLY off or out of place I beg you to do some adjustments to the name nothing takes you out of a story like some really bad naming ( ̄へ ̄)

    I totally get it! Hi5
I too am a reader when I'm not translating.
It's bad enough that some names are common and lazy that you don't even remember them. it's worst if it's nonsensical name (some even in official) that I wish translators would stop with the nonsense of "staying true" to the original.
Sometimes the author doesn't even give a shit, that's why you get shit names.
What's the point of conserving shitty names. It helps no one.
Doesn't make the author "look good" nor the story "better", most definitely not help the readers "understand" the story.
Most of the time, it's because the author in their original language trying to make a foreign name sound better (unique) in their language.
They of course wouldn't think so far that when localized in English, it became off.
When dropped on the lap of TL, we're left scratching our head with what to do with this silly variant.

And thanks for putting your trust in translator.

    A) for most of it however keep da/xiao because i think it can be awkward to hear it completely translated because it often doesn't culturally fit in english. like ive seen some manhwa/manhua where they'll say "big brother" or "senior" (to call to someone) and while it isn't the worst it definitely doesn't fit!

i also think option B could be good if it is in a sci-fi or futuristic setting. however if completely changed i feel that it should be changed to an english name that isn't commonly used similar to cezar! i feel that adds to the setting (and the rotation of names) more so than more "modern" or common names!

This series is half way through and I'm open to suggestions for my next project.
I'll need time to do my research, to read ahead before I finish this, So I think this is good timing to ask.

(I'll probably ask this again next week if I don't get good response )

Thank you so much for this!!!

are you open to translating Ni Jiu or maybe 妻为上? those are pretty long tho

    idle_nomad January 25, 2025 2:27 am

妻为上 is a no go because of existing official English.

溺酒 Ni Jiu/intoxicated. It's quite messy I can't wrap head around it yet.
I honestly don't get why people prefer everything mixed under one title. With good/bad/official/unofficial translation all in one. To have official title park under unofficial is even more bizarre. Lol.

Anyway, I'm still researching it. Some said official has cut scenes.. and then you have partial clean unofficial with watermark in speech bubbles...ugh..
    Still, it's got a nice 9.4 rating?

If I do decide to redo it, I'll probably slap a new title or distinguish it somehow. I like everything neat. Reupload haters gonna hate again.

Can you do 'a pair of otakus' please?

Hi, I'm the translator for Guiding the Eccentric Tyrant.

My version of the translation includes:
-Details from the novels that were left out in the original manhua
-Fixing plot holes that both the manhua and novel overlooked

For the CL/RD (Clean/Redraw), there will be:
-Decensored kiss scenes (so you can see the full, uncensored moments)
-cleaning up of all SFX, not just labeling them or partial cleaning
-Proper English TL and TS (typeset) of those SFX
This is as unofficially-official as I can get.

While there are other translations available, I am not re-uploading or using their work in any way. New readers might be eager to jump ahead, and that's perfectly fine.
My motivation comes from
-wanting to create a more complete version of my favorite manhua, and I can't wait to re-read my own work when it's all done. ^^
-hoping this manhua gets more love as the Romanized title gets much less attention compared to other guideverse, and it worked.

I also want to express my gratitude to the readers. I read all your comments and truly appreciate the support—it makes a real difference. Thank you!
