It didn't say at the start but this setting is yin & yang world. But they are slightly different. Yang people are only born from royalties. No yin are born, but women or men who slept with yang people will turn into yin people and have capabilities to have children. That's also why male consort and male concubine is accepted. Not all people could turn into yin person. Yin & Yang can sensed each other presence (like GPS). And can sense if the other is in danger or died.
The webtoon really don't do justice to the novel. Many scenes are cut, like chunk cut and the characters thought are not explained.
In webtoon there's no explanation why MC could only went as far as 5 winning in tournament. It was because all in his previous life, he was always tortured in ikmunsa, he suffered greatly and had his leg deformed.
In this life, he is healthy that's why he wanted 10 winnings. But upon seeing ML is his last opponent, MC understood that the king doesn't want to give him noble title, so MC is trying to fight appropriately and surrender. MC described ML has ill temper and great martial art. Also in novel, MC fight scenes with other opponents are written. The king even as far as sent his own military to fight MC but they all lose to MC. MC decided to surrender to ML because he didn't want to provoke the king by injuring his favorite's prince. These thought are not written at all in webtoon.
Next thing is : MC will be injured and slept for 2 whole days, ML was furious at the doctor for prescribing MC with medicine that made MC sleep that long. ML is crazy obsessive person. So he really tried to kill the doctor. MC woke up. Suddenly ML give MC alcoholic drink for newly wed couple and told MC this is why he bought MC. MC was surprised. In previous lifes, MC also slept with ML, but MC described it as "because ML pushed it" Or more like, ML made it that way. MC never thought ML will actually bought him for sex purpose. MC described ML has a taste or preference for a strong man. So MC thought, ML slept with him because he used to be a general. Anyway MC agreed with ML and drank the alcohol, and ML said "I m glad I chose this alcohol over aphrodisiac". MC thought why is ML is so different in this life. ML told MC to not defy him or he will cut his arm/leg. Because he is going to be rough. Again, MC thinking, ML in previous life was a perv but he never been rough, and they had good sex.
Anyway ML tried to provoked MC and MC was startled and swung his fist but catch by ML, ML use this as reason to tie MC to bed. MC was confused tho. "Do you want me to rebel or do you not want me to rebel?" Tbh ML is confusing. He said MC is too quick to agree to sleep with him. MC agreed because that just the same as what they did in previous lifes but in ML eyes that was weird how a former general is okay about it.
The sex scenes in webtoon is too much like rape while in novel is more normal, aside from binding MC hands.
ML said that he actually fell in love the first time he saw MC but more so after seeing MC capabilities on combat during tournament. ML is kinda crazy. Even if loves MC he doesn't have intention to make MC love him back and told his eunuch that if the emperor refused to let MC be his noble concubine, he can cut MC leg or blind his eye (by making MC disable, MC will have a hard time performing martial arts and emperor will see MC as harmless). The eunuch tried to avoid their relationship getting bad by saying please don't cut MC leg or blind his eye, he will surely earn resentment from MC if ML does that.
It's actually double regression. ML also regressed (only remember 6th life). But their point of return are different. While ML regressed to his 16 yo self (currently 20yo). MC always regressed at the point where he was already in jail. There was misunderstanding between MC & ML in 6th life. MC thought ML betrayed him by selling him out to Jin Hanjae. ML thought MC betrayed him by selling him out to crown prince.
Because of this misunderstanding, ML tried to take revenge on MC in this life but he is wavering, I mean, he really love MC since previous life. But he also tried to keep reminding himself not to trust MC.
Vice versa. MC also doesn't smile or being friendly with ML like in previous life because MC is suspicious of ML.
ML is in unrequited love tbh. MC is stiff man. He never really think that ML actually love him, even in previous life. MC sole goal throughout his 7 lives are all vengeance. MC is literally ML first love ever.
ML never interested in throne. Like. At all. His wish in previous life was to leave kingdom and move to western continent with MC. ML is emperor's favorite, but not in good way. Emperor is not good person. He purposely chose stupid prince as crown prince, and have the rest of the princes to fight for the throne even if they don't want to. Not all prince want to be emperor, but to maintain political balance, the emperor purposely pitt his son each other. ML already knew this tactic, always distance himself from other princes or any other political supporters. That's why emperor deliberately show favorism towards ML, to make other princes "attack" ML. Upon regression, ML is gaining supporters secretly, but not because he wants to be an emperor, but because he wants to be able to protect himself and leave capital whenever he want in the future.

MC arrived in Daeyeon, won tournament, being taken cared by General Hee Beom Yeong (His nephew Hee Ilhun was saved by MC 5years ago), Autumn Hunting Festival (saved ML, 6th Prince Treason & Il hun got hurt), Met an imoogi & timeskip, MC brought 6 subordinates from Hwajin by using reward money from emperor, Hwajin demanded MC to be returned to be sentenced to death, MC got drugged by empress and slept with ML (no rape), war with Hwajin, starting sexual relationship with ML, General Beom Yeong died in war, Hee Iljun lost his uncle became depressed and died, MC who lost Hee family was taken as Crown Prince subordinate, Crown Prince & Jin Hanjae worked together, MC found out about it and was imprisoned by Crown Prince, ML got into Crown Prince trap and thought MC betrayed him, ML saved MC from crown prince prison, MC saw Jin Hanjae letter in ML desk and thought ML also work with Jin Hanjae just like crown prince, after they slept together while ML sleeping MC ran away to avoid death by ML or Crown Prince, but MC was killed by Hwajin. ML found MC dying unexpectedly because ML had mini skirmish near the area MC died. ML lived for 2 years after MC died and was an emperor.
There's chunk of story that removed from webtoon. Like how carefree and frivolous life ML had in all previous lives, he was smart, but too carefree, he didn't care about his mother, or anyone. Many ML contact with his mom is cut from webtoon, even ML & MC flashback of 6th life is deleted. Like people ML planted everywhere etc.

For anyone confused, translator should have said "half brother's GREAT grandson" when the old guy (ML's great uncle) was referring to Gyeol. ML is the actual grandson, and gyeol is the great grandson
