It's kind of rude and disrespectful to judge someone else's work like that. If you don't like the translation then don't read it, don't tell them to stop since they like doing it. They are really trying and if you don't get it then stop reading it's rude disrespectful and it's making them feel bad. If you use your common sense you can actually realize what is going on in the story. So please don't make comments so rude cuz it's making the people that work hard for it feel really bad.

Bruh just try to be considerate , atleast they've tried there best compared to others who criticize peoples work while reading here "freely". (I'm not an exemption tho but at least i try my best to just understand and appreciate) It not that even worst. It's understandable. Well if ur brain can manage hohoho.

Not to be rude but i believe that everyone also have this kind of trouble, it's causing headache when one starts to read it but you also have to be patient and keep it since translating, cleaning, typesetting and all are not so easy to do, actually you can also translate it yourself too if you put your effort into making a masterpiece of your own without bothering other people. Plus you also need proofreader for this type of work as well since translaters can't always have the best grammar or some shi* , you would know what it feels like to translate sth that only you would understand.

I agree with you and I'm going to read through each of these replies and defend the opinion. If you have subpar Korean and English skills, you should NOT be translating and ruining works with poor grammar and providing it to the English audience. MTL translations are probably the worst sin to do in scanlation groups, and proofreaders who are not native or fluent in English working on an English translation is probably a trainwreck in itself. I don't even see the scanlation logo in any of these chapters, so we don't know whether this is a group or a one-man, and either way, they don't seem to want help because they havent provided credit for translation. Although, I bet if they did, it would ruin the quality and success of the work.

It is like trying to buy a car when the dealer is French but you know only the French alphabet (extreme). Or, if you did manage to buy the car, you have only had practice driving for a week. Everything looks fine on the outside, but the one person who is in charge of the driving (or narration/text) in this case ruin the entire project.

People crying in the comment section about how "wrong" this person's opinion was (it isn't wrong, it's normal and acceptable) don't realize that manwha aren't picture books with no words. The art and therefore cleaning/redraw jobs may have been great, but the text is also an integral part of conveying the story. Like a Ying Yang thing, if one side is lacking, then there is no balance and it all turns to unbearable shit.

Translate for your native language, not for a language you barely understand.

If you translate for an ENGLISH audience, you should be able to at least be COHERENT and be FLUENT in English or at least have a handle on the grammar. If they don't and can't seem to form a single correct sentence, then they should translate for their OWN language, not produce incomprehensible garbage for another audience. Plus, if they are a group, then they should put their best foot forward. This will earn them collaborations or even contracts if they sctually did quality work. Incomprehensible bullshit like this is the reason why original authors hate illegal groups— because it brings negativity from other audiences.

Scanlation groups usually have a code: Not to snag another series from another group. No sniping (translating the chapter ahead of them) and sometimes no uploading over their work. You can see how this is a problem. We have a group, probably learning the basics of English and Google Translate, translating a work and other groups can't touch it unless they have permission.

I'll reiterate. The art is only half the work. Manwhas are ART and NARRATION/TEXT. So if one thing is bad, the whole thing is bad. If you could understand much of anything in these chapters, please fill me in on what mental gymnastics you are doing to understand the disgusting grammar present in these chapters.

If you're going to upload someone publically, there is going to be a criticism, whether you like it or not. Infact, that's the whole point of this discussion board feature— to talk about thr work, which includes translation. Let me ask— who made you the director/leader/administrator of this discussion board? Why are you telling people they can't criticize a work they are also reading for free (illegally)? It's LITERALLY a discussion board. Kindly leave.

Our brains are doing the work for us, against our will, by rearranging sentences or trying to fix the atrocious grammar. This makes it /very uncomfortable/ to read. Reading should be effortless. The only mental processing power that should be done is when there is symbolism or some type of mystery to be solved and there are hints in the text. Also, free pass if it's poetry, but it still needs to be somewhat coherent.

You're not going to read a novel with thousands of typos, usage mistakes, word switcharoos, and no punctuation, right? Or are you still going to give that book a 5☆ because they author worked so hard on it!!! Wow big brain indeed!!

Mr/Ms/Mx big brain says we all need common sense to understand it, but how about this extreme scenario: the reader has a reading difficulty, yet still wants to enjoy the work. However because of dyslexia (and its 4 subparts) and the poor translation, they're practically excluded! I guess they have small brain now!!

Besides, scanlation work is going into their portfolio. Shit like this is going to be remembered. Scanlators like S2Manga have notably shitty translation and therefore get their work deleted on mangago.

I am assuming quite a lot here, so forgive me if I misinterpreted some of this;

You quite literally admitted this scanlation group did not put in the effort to translate this because is quite far from being a masterpiece. Nice.

The classic "translate it yourself if yoy dont like it" but in a more politely passive aggressive way. The reason they aren't translating it is because they either don't know Korean, don't have the time, or just don't want to. We are the consumers of the work and therefore we can rate it however we want without having to abide by your ideals. It's like saying, "don't like the food? Cook it yourself then" or "don't like the movie? Make a script, choose the actors and camera crew, and direct the movie yourself, then". It's fucking stupid and now how society works right now. You provide a service and the reciever rates the product. Like Amazon.

The proofreaders did not do their job. I know because I am one for another scanlation. The mistakes in all of these chapters should have been caught, but they weren't, so either there is no PR or the PR is slacking/doesn't know fluent or near fluent English.

The TLs need to be prepared to write the meaning underneath the text they cant quite convey. That is how a PR can PR better if they know the meaning behind the text. But again, there doesnt seem to be a PR so this whole scanlation was a trainwreck from the start.

Note: OP never mentioned anything about the cleaning or redrawing. Only the translation, so kindly leave that out of the arguments.

demm, i only said the translation was off because it will damaged the beautiful story plot & what the creator wanted to say in their story. Plus this story was made in a historical setting, in which, readers like me wanted to explore the culture of said settings and maybe gained some knowledge (e.g., the cutting of balls to keep u loyal but since the grammar was off, i thought the eunuch's ball was ripped off bc it was bitten by a dog.)

Also, since this manhwa was written in Hangul originally, some readers should know that there's a lot of meaning in one word.

Oh well...i didn't mean for you to interpret it that way but it's like you already gone over the fence already so i can't help it. First of all, I'm also part of a scanlation group and that's the reason I raised how hard it is for them to translate a series of manga, manhwa or anything of some sort, it's not easy work so i mean for ppl to appreciate their work even if it is bad or good (i clearly didn't mention anyt arguments or shit about cleaner or typesetters or some shit as you stated in ur last statement), and i clearly stated in my first statement that i believe many people are having trouble reading this series right now because of grammatical errors and that's y it's not as "perfect" as you'd think of it and it's just simply a matter of fact, even i believe that the translator themselves also are aware of this mistake but because they don't have a PR like you said due to many possible reasons, and yes your assumptions aren't all wrong either if we put it that way. Second, when i mentioned the word "masterpiece" i wanted to convey that no one is perfect thus trying to make and asking for a perfection is not sth you can do out of frustration and plead, so if you want to make a perfect translation then put your own effort into doing it so you WILL UNDERSTAND JUST HOW HARD IT IS FOR SCANLATION GROUP TO FUCKING PRODUCE THEIR WORK. I never mentioned that those ppl never put into any effort.
My advice for you would be to learn to read better next time, so you won't make a fool out of yourself to others later by raising arguments that aren't really arguments, in addition to you missing my points and well i acknowledged you weren't sure about your own assumptions as well so i guess we should just take it for a grain of salt.

That's true but that because you haven't seen other beautiful and elegant works that have been translated into crap so you wouldn't know the feeling, i understand the part where you said it was off because i also feel the same way but asking ppl to change the translator and so on is not easy matter and it hurts those who brought it up from the beginning. That's why you should be appreciating sth free and nice since you would have another choice of paying ppl to translate for you (some translator even charge money or raise it in a form of donation to their group) or accessing original sites or maybe just go to paid website instead. Y'know I've seen these types of works before and many times and it also happened to my favorite manhua but since I can't do anything about it plus i never learned to discourage people just because their works is worse than others. You should make yourself clear later as well, sometimes people only interpret words as they see fit and it always lead to misunderstanding.

Yes, most jobs in a scanlation are hard but it is not hard to have a coherent or flowing translation. All you need is a grammar checker (or more) and/or a native English speaker as a PR. Notice word "or".

TL indeed is very hard, but the true test is to see whether the TL can actually convey the meaning of the words mostly accurately and coherently in English. If they write shit that can't be understood by a PR, they need to retranslate, drop the work, or drop the TL. TLs by far have it the hardest. However, any inconsistencies or grammar errors SHOULD have been caught by the proofreader, which why spelling mistakes and very obvious grammar issues should have been fixed AT THE BARE MINIMUM.

The PR has to reinterpret the translation, fix it to fit modern English, or leave a nice translation be. It sounds hard, but it really isn't. I bet a cleaner with no experience but is a native English speaker could clean it up. I bet Grammarly, Sapling, and whatever FREE grammar checkers there are could have transformed the translation from this ugly shit to beautiful translations. Look— the grammar checkers are also FREE like the FREE scanlation of this series!! They put 0 effort into helping themselves with free addons. They need to make a new position called "addon grammar checker" if they can't find a willing PR. (Technically it is pirated but i aint preaching)

My advice would be to you is to actually read what you write in your replies. I literally quoted your words and rearranged them, barely putting anything of my own words inbetween.

And, I mean— I am entertained either way. Not putting up with this translation makes my day better, arguing with people gives me something to do other than reading manga (like exercising my own English).

I know shit about hangul and korean. It would be interesting to see a scanlation group explain meanings & teach the audience in a subtle way, actuslly. Im down to read that but i don't want to read:
