For those of you thinking this went too quickly on Hayden's part -- return to the honey scene flashback. Brett essentially addressed Hayden's greatest fear as a human being. Ever since he hospitalized his partner when he was younger due to his pheromones, Hayden's been terrified of becoming a beast without reason, driven by instinct, and hurting another person. In that flashback, Brett acknowledges this and also the power he'd been given with the word "honey" in its ability to keep Hayden human and away from complete despair.

There's a reason the author chose to do a panel of the curtains falling as Hayden finishes remembering this moment -- because of the slang phrase "it's curtains" (the end, failure, or death of something) for any denial or hang ups Hayden has with Brett. He's found someone who can keep him human even when he's beyond the capacity to control himself and knows the pit of self-loathing he felt doomed to. What greater gift could someone give him?

One more note from a creative -- pay attention to the color green present in this season. It's present when Hayden's mind bonds to Brett. It's *also* present as a ring around the light in Brett's eyes when he's feeling a genuine emotion -- whether it's joy or connection. Brett's eyes are the stars of this season and clue you into what he is actually feeling, even if he hasn't acknowledged it himself.

Well... that was an abrupt transition away from the climax of the action. If I didn't know better, I'd think a chapter was missing.
