ML was trying to do an experiment to see if MC would like him without knowing he was a namer or if people liked each other solely because they are supposed to be soulmates. As for the parents, they probably didn't know.
Agree with the reply above. ML himself didn't believe about the "instant-attachment" namer partner would have and he acknowledged that it didn't thrilled him whatsoever when he finally saw his name on MC. And then when he gauged MC's reaction, his anwer was pretty nonchalant.
So I guess he's experimenting in whether the "attachment" for namer couple really could help the emotion grew when he himself started from the place of apathy/no affection towards MC. And he also wanted to know if said "attachment" myth was still working when said Namer didn't realize their name.
As for MC's parents, from the interaction we saw, I had suspicions that his father is actually clueless, but his mom is rather sus from the way she reacted when MC asked about his name engraving.
