He was rejected, couldn't comprehend the emotion of heartbreak that he felt and basically short-circuited while questioning if he really was feeling this pain and despair or was he just programmed to feel that.
Since Claude lost his memory I always think back to the banquet where she really thought that wa sthe end of her play as a daughter. Now that this really happened it just hurts because Claude showed his panic at how she acted then, as if she would leave him but now he left her in a sense.
She finally had a family but they are slowly taken away. It really hurts to see that...
