If she feels bad about killing people, then she can just kill the stepmom and not kill the stepsister. Then she would, in theory, only feel half as bad as she would if she killed both. The stepsister wouldn't be able to hurt her without the stepmom's backing. Plus, it is a kill or be killed situation and the staff in the mansion are also in danger. So, my moral compass tells me she would still have the high ground.
My feelings about the main character and her husband are complex and contradictory. I like them; I hate them; and I feel so sorry for them. And their poor child, I feel bad for him. I'm glad she's trying to give her son love now and trying to keep him from a bad marriage! That boy needs all the love he can get.
I think it's important to remember that the purpose of tests is to see what you know. An example is testing that someone knows multiplication before entering an algebra class. If the person doesn't know enough to pass that test, then they won't be ready to learn algebra. The same thing applies to a school application, if they don't know enough before entering the school, they will have much more trouble learning the new things they are taught. So cheating just shows that the person is not actually ready for the next stage of education.
Plus, cheating always comes with a risk of getting caught and that's not the fault of the people that catch someone cheating.
That's not to say that I haven't cheated before. Sometimes I don't care about learning something and don't mind cheating, but being caught cheating is a risk I am willing to take.
So, she seems unhinged. So far she has forced him into marriage and had sex with him on their wedding night. It sucks, but I don't think it is any different from others of this genre. There are so many stories (fiction and nonfiction) where noble women are forced into a marriage they don't want and have to have sex against their will with their new husband. At least she is clearly someone important to Ezekiel, so maybe he is more willing than he would be if it were a complete stranger?
I thought the same thing. Many Women have to do this, it’s new to see a man in this position. He doesn’t seem to hate calliope. Hopefully they both get better at communicating
