So before I start reading can someone tell me if its yaoi or shounen ai? And if its shounen ai is it still flirtatious enough or whatever to squeal about when I'm alone? Lmk please and thank you! (⌒▽⌒)

I think the manhua is explaining things pretty okay but the pacing as of right now is a little fast. I agree that it’s good to have pictures since it’s easier to imagine things but if you feel like some things are confusing then reading the novel would be a good choice! Personally I think the novel explains things the most clearly, reading the manhua afterwards makes it easier to understand :D

It actually depends on you. For me, I actually read a bit of the manhwa first before reading the novel to get a gist on how the characters would look like so that I would be able to enjoy imagining the characters when I read the novel.
Honestly, I recommend reading both of 'em cuz both the manhwa and the novel have their own charms. In the manhwa, you can see the beautiful arts and in the novel, it is very detailed that I don't really have any problems imagining the scenes that are happening there.

The novel is very much a yaoi.
As for the manhua, that is if you're looking for those yaoish panels, then nope.. I believe this will stay as shounen ai in that category. I'm still confused as to how China's censorship law works but so far, with the manhuas, they don't show much of the smutty scenes like Korean and Japanese BLs. But still, you can see that there's a tension between the two. The blushing and all is still there just like your wholesome BL. I'm still squealing for those panels maybe because I can see those pictures now no need to visualize (灬º‿º灬)♡

Lol. I mean I did start reading the novel to Under The Oak Tree and it was so hard to imagine certain things so I'm gonna read the manhwa. I'll probably read both then. Maybe start with the manhua and then the novel. Yeah that's a bit complicated with censorship.. eh I like short wholesome stories but.... if its long I like it better when it shows the scenes lol. Like Mr. Beta SFW and NSFW are sooo different. Like wow. It really makes the whole world go round.

Love how its progressing from far. At chapter 116. First one where they're fake brothers I stopped reading before the end of that one but picked it back up. The whole thing about multiple stories made it really interesting. I'll probably read asap when its updated. Wish it was yaoi though. T .T Just a sprinkle would've been nice. Like more kissing or some sexual tension lol
This IS a yaoi lol
Not "Yaoi". Its "Shounen Ai". This manhua will only be called "Yaoi" if there are sex scenes. Basically, there are 2 types of BL, Yaoi and Shounen Ai. Shounen Ai is a BL with no sex between Seme and Uke (or rapists if the story is about....anyways). For now, this will be called "Shounen Ai" manhua. But if, in the future, this manhua will show some spicy and SMEXY (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜 scenes in the future chapters, then this will be a "Yaoi". But since this is a chinese comic, I already know that they will censored it which is kind of ANNOYING. Even the kiss is censored, gosh!
Yaous do not need to have sex to be listed as yaoi. Shonen ai tend to be very light yaoi and more then often do not have relationships. These characters do, they even went on dates, it's a yaoi.
Yeah, this isn't smut its non-explict yaoi but the relationship is fully defined.
Shounen-ai is basically queer bait. A lot of times you are lucky if they kiss.
But the tags of this should be shounen-ai vs yaoi because yaoi has become associated with smut.
Yaoi does need sex to be defined so.
Whereas if it's a relationship that shows two people who are gay and going out, but doesn't explicitly show explicit scenes, then it's a shonen ai
Didn't mean to start a whole thing. In my mind this is shounen ai. I've read some listed as such and since it usually skips the scenes to the next morning or they mention it happened. Yaoi shows at LEAST glimpses and at MOST is explicit. Both are BL. Lol but that's just me. Never actually looked that into it but fromwhat I've seen that's how I categorize it. Well wishes! Its holiday time! (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
"Yaoi, also known as boys' love and its abbreviation BL, is a genre of fictional media originating in Japan that features homoerotic relationships between male characters."
This fits the definition since they do have a relationship
So what's the difference then?
Well the definition is almost the same but typically shounen ai does not actually show romances between the guys. It's just queer bait.
Reading this, one of us might be high since all the yaois (dating, marrying/ marriage, etc.) I've read has sex while the shounen ai I read only has kissing (dating, marrying/ marriage, etc., but not sex).
If it's queer baiting, there should be only sexual tension but no relationship.
Also, mangago often put the wrong genres (some I read was tagged as shounen ai but has sex scenes, and vice versa).
Shounen ai does show romance between the guys and it's not queer baiting (shounen ai literally means boy love tf). Just because it doesn't have a sex scene or kiss scene doesn't mean it's not a bl.
I've read plenty of yaoi that hasn't had sex or at least sex shown.
Example:
Mermaids egg
A mail with my dead lover
Dead man switch (at least not yet after 20+ chapters)
I've been reading yaoi for a LONG time, this site just tends to have a LOT of shut yaois, like that's what this site was originally for. It's only recently that more wholesome stuff is on here.
Maybe the site got the genre wrong? I mean, there's basically two types of bl here:
Shounen ai (boy love) - for all ages (only kissing, confession)
Yaoi - adults (includes sex along with the two)
And by "recently more wholesome stuff is on here", I hope your don't mean codename Anastasia
Yaoi= there are segs escenes, one division of bl
Bl= boys love, boxboy, it main consists in a relationship of two boys, if it has segs escenes then its a yaoi, if not its a shonen ai
