I'd be so happy if a different scan group, literally any other group, translates volume 2 instead
This scan group likes to act like this is their project and have exclusivity. But literally anybody can pick this up and start translating it as long as they buy their own raws. No one can stop them.
this author literally has the craziest, most incoherent plots but I can't stay away lol
yeah scan swiping isn't great, but I totally understand why it happened. i think that the story and art really intrigued a lot of people but the almost unreadable translation led to a lot of people dropping the series. translating groups probably saw this, and wanted to do right by the intent of the series, and give it a proper, respectful translation. also they probably wanted the readers to be able to actually enjoy the series. so i really don't think anyone had any ill-intent by translating this.

lowkey didn't like taka, I feel like the lieutenant would have been a much more faithful and reliable partner to aoi.
although i found this manga enjoyable, it definitely falls into some really unpleasant stereotypes. mainly, that although it's a gay love story, neither of the characters are depicted as gay. and even worse, the only actual gay character is predatory and villainous. ultimately, i feel like this manga is subtly homophobic, in the sense that it wants the drama of gay experiences but can't tolerate the inclusion of actual gay characters and instead uses "straight" protagonists.
Exactly, that is my point.
But that's the whole point. Two guys who were never interested with men get together. It's a stereotypical plot. Ando wasn't predatory, he's desperate. You honestly can just replace him with a girl that's interested with Tokiwa and gave her the same similar excuse.
This whole plot can be executed with gay characters. If the goal of the plot is to have them "overcome" an obstacle for their love, their are so many ways that it can be achieved with gay characters. You have not really said anything that refutes that Ando is predatory. He forcefully kisses the MC, he confronts him in areas that he knows no one else will come in, he stays late just so he can be alone with the MC, he constantly inserts himself into the MC's space/plans, and he refuses to acknowledge a "no" for a long time. That is predatory and uncomfortable behavior. Ando is an especially harmful character because he is a gay man, not a woman. He is playing into really negative gay stereotypes. Yes, his character role could be replaced with a girl? But that's not the point I made in my post. I'm saying that because of the existing and damaging stereotypes which already exist around gay men being predatory, his character is harmful. Ultimately, I'm saying it's homophobic and exploitative to write a gay story and essentially make the straight characters the heros and the one gay character a villain. From my experience as a gay person, this story is homophobic.
You can acknowledge a story is bad but still personally enjoy it. Please don't break your back trying to excuse homophobia because acknowledging it makes you uncomfortable. Like...c'mon.
I don't know if anyone's read this author's other work, Night Maze, but don't these two feel so different? Like, I can't even believe their by the same author.
I saw some ppl asking in the comments so I just wanted to put my interpretation of what it means by calling Trevor a God, feel free to offer other interpretations as well ( ◜‿◝ ). It's established by the other characters that Trevor, although stoic at first, is actually very generous and kind-hearted. He is referred to as a God by those close to him because he offers them salvation. For his mother and father, he brought them happiness when they couldn't have children (and later offered financial support.) It's similar with Gene. When Gene left the Amish and his religion, he lost everything. His community, family, possessions, etc. Trevor once again acted as a savior by taking Gene in and meeting his physical and emotional needs. When Gene says Trevor is his God, it is a declaration of love and gratitude. He is venerating Trevor by saying he is his God (one above all others) and showing how devotedly he adores him. It also could demonstrate that religion no longer has such a stronghold on Gene because he is saying something that is kind of sacrilegious but we'll have to wait and see how the rest of the story unfolds. I think it ultimately is supposed to demonstrate just how purely good Trevor is and play into this story's themes of religion and redemption while being a really beautiful love confession ♡
