The mother was instilling what her own mother did to her on her son. Creating a child who yearned for his mother's love, but instead smothering him with affection to only take it away. It felt pitiful reading this, but also you knew thier actions had consequences and that it was no excuse for what happened. The aunt and uncle who lost thier child were not very nice people, and they seeked reparations for thier son which with the flashbacks of the story made me realize thier intentions. This is a psychological and introspective story that I highly recommend.
