“y’all are weaklings” no dude. it’s called putting yourself in the shoes of the dad and understanding the desperation to save your own flesh and blood. like can we be so fucking fr.. yk damn well you’d rather save your own kid in that situation, and still be unwilling to accept death as a punishment. like genuinely, can we pls use common sense?
also, i don’t believe it’s necessarily the fact that he killed dude, it’s just the way he decided to beat bro to death. to give him an agonizing, slow death rather than cut off his head or some shit. ik “death” is the specific punishment, but deciding upon exile would be just as effective but wouldn’t involve people needing to witness splattered brains, gang… :/
rules are rules. is it a cruel one? yes. but those are the rules. although i do agree that a more painless execution would’ve sufficed and made it a little more humane.
rules are rules??? are you fr? like pls be so deadass w me rn… he is saving the life of his child…
once again, i ask, please use your god-given right to experience empathy, and consider the mental torment that kid’s dad went through in order to make the brash decision to steal medicine, KNOWING the punishment was death and PRAYING that the people—at the very least, their leader—would have the compassion to give to forgive that man.
additionally, do we not possess the critical thinking skills enough to consider the likelihood of MULTIPLE people stealing medicine? i can bet you a big buck that he is not the only person stealing the meds. the author literally gave us a hint at that when we saw that one mean girl in the storage room with MC, telling him to keep his mouth shut. yk DAMN WELL ppl just killed off this poor man to cover their own asses.
anyways, i rest my case. “rules are rules” (wrong buzzer). “it was a necessary evil” (wrong buzzer). “he rightfully suffered the consequences of his actions” (extremely fucking loud wrong buzzer). most of you are heartless assholes and i hope you don’t live in America and cannot vote. <3

well, one, you should relax. leading to insults because you don’t agree with people’s different perspectives is insanely childish and shows your immaturity and lack of comprehension. not to mention, it’s plainly rude. i didn’t disrespect nor insult you, so i’d like the same treatment. with that being said, i don’t feel the need to explain my perspective on the situation, and instead, i ask that you give your “god-given right” to be able to show respect and kindness.

i’m failing to see a point of insult within my spiel…unless you’re referring to my “heartless asshole” comment, in which case, if seeing my observation is deemed “insulting” to you, then maybe you should rethink why that is.
regardless, my apologies if seeing a lack of human decency and compassion is infuriating and gets me heated. i feel like that’s pretty understandable, if i do say so myself.
secondarily, this isn’t an opinion ANYONE with two working neurological hemispheres should agree upon, so i’m unable to find it within me to respect anyone that does.
thirdly, you can say that “rules are rules” all you want, but that doesn’t make said rule any less immoral and wrong. not everything is about following rules, sometimes things need to be about doing something that is legitimately right and fitting for a certain scenario because—especially when it comes to disobeying rules—it is not always a “one-size-fits-all” situation.
there are appropriate exceptions in the case of breaking a law or failing to adhere to a specific rule, so the fact that many of you are so willing to shrug it off and say “oh well, thems the rules”, is wild and crazy.
fictional or not, addressing this reaction as “ok” or “understandable”, is wrong in any capacity.

you insult someone, calling them a “heartless asshole” and that they’re hopefully not able to vote, and then proceed to deny ever being insulting. so, not only are you childish, immature, and unable to comprehend different perspectives, you’re also someone who can’t take accountability. honestly, i hope someone like you isn’t able to vote.
anyway, as i’ve already said, i don’t plan on explaining my take with someone like you, so i don’t see the point in you further explaining yours. had you responded without the insults, we could’ve had productive conversation. so unfortunate.

I think the fact that you read “Non-Zero Sum” and gave it 4/5 stars kind of says smth about your character and morals…

So do you think the dad deserved to be brutally bludgeoned to death for trying to save his son yes or no? We kind of got off track in your second comment.

sheep ass mindset. there’s no point in me trying to have a productive conversation with someone who has zero capability for critical thinking skills and allows immoral laws to override your own moral compass, so i’ll have to agree with you on discontinuing our discussion.
i fail to see your point on my being “childish” and “immature” but you’re free to think whatever! i’d like to think that someone being able to argue the point of higher morality is a hell of a lot more grown and mature, at least in intellect, than the latter.
and damn fucking straight i’m unable to comprehend that perspective lmfao, because what the fuck even motivates someone to think that way… i have no patience for someone like that.
I think the fact that you read “Non-Zero Sum” and gave it 4/5 stars kind of says smth about your character and morals… Cat
considering that you know what non-zero sum is means you read it as well. so what does that say about you? besides, i labeled it as “dead dove”. again, proof of me being able to see things from all perspective. it was a tragic piece and was even was hard for me to read at points, but the story was intriguing, and i was able to read deeper into it and found it rather complex. it’s as simple as that.
furthermore, i don’t know where you see me say that he deserved to get murdered. i said i understood it. had they let him live when normally the punishment is death, the citizens would see that rules can bend, therefore it would lead to more breaking of it. more theft, betrayal, etc. you have to understand that they’re living in apocalyptic times with limited tools and resources. they are in survival mode. you start letting one person steal meds (and yes, it’s a justifiable and understandable reason), but even then, you’re now out of meds for five other people who needs it and life depends on it. this was the killing of one to save others. unfortunately, guwon can’t afford to have endless empathy. it sounds brutal because it is brutal. this is a fragile society and and mercy weakens it.

so, it has nothing to do with my morals and character. i’m not heartless or immoral for understanding, i’m just not in fantasyland. survival sometimes mean doing shit that are ethically ugly but is actually necessary. the world that they are living in right now has no room for “right and wrong”. it’s literally survival vs collapse. how else do you think they managed to get to the point they’re at now and stay afloat? certainly not by being the moral king.
