At first Merlin said that the time is paused in the real world but not in the game, thats why Arthur matured when Lin came back.
But in the war part Merlin said that the time in the game world will be paused thats why she cant escape through the egg when her lifes in danger.

I think that this is happening because Lin has to finish all her missions and war is part of her missions so she cant skip it and go back home because then she wont be able to finish the game.
