fandom has become relentless ‘pro ship’ vs ‘anti’ brain rot. these labels are so black and white people are using them to virtue signal constantly nowdays.
the real truth is that i am not ‘pro’ or ‘anti’ anything i really only care about media/ships i love. because everything else is a irrelevant flop in comparison.
but with that being said.
i believe in curating online spaces i sometimes consume dead dove content, problematic-dark-uncomfy themes in fiction. i also dont believe authors/creators owe readers moral explanations for readers and depicting taboo content is NOT endorsement. i hate puritanical views for art and i am anti-censorship wouldn’t consider myself an ‘anti’ as a lot of those who do are unable to critically engage with media or see a darker work on the surface level and throw around a words like ‘romanticisation’ ‘fetishisation.’
HOWEVER i will NEVER consider myself ‘proship’ despite the way people assume everyone who is interested by dark themes is.
sure ‘proship’ is simply a modernised ‘dont like dont read’ and that you wouldn’t harass people over fictional content despite how you feel about said content. that sounds great??? right ???
because that means i am to be indifferent or ‘advocate’ for those who engage in sexualised loli/sho content and those who defend it (something that has continuously shown to have consequences outside of fiction.) or fictional content that is used as a tool to prop up discrimination and propaganda - eg jk rowling new transphobic books. or severe violent misogyny from cis men towards women (it will never free of question because its fictional.) i will not being defending this ever and i while i would personally block as i dont want to interact ever with freaks. if someone is going to bully you i wont be intervening.
often people who call themselves ‘proship’ are incredibly insensitive to criticism regarding content they consume and blow the whistle claiming it’s ‘harassment.’ all praised and well loved media from literary works to film have historically been engaged with critically. or having an opinion which could be considered factual is ‘harassment.’
or people who claim to care about real people but don’t correctly tag content. if you really cared about real victims you would keep the content in private spaces and prevent people being exposed to it.
