i know ill get hate for this but i think this manhwa isnt that great, id give it 2.5/5 . its like a poor mans version of solo leveling. its not bad, but its not good. the artist is great at drawing scenery and some monsters, but otherwise the art is kinda sloppy and not great, the translation is so-so and the story is lacking in development and depth. ofc this is just my opinion, but i think that this manhwa is disappointing(〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

I like it. I like Solo Leveling more. If your reading Solo Leveling I think you really need to put it out of your mind when you’re reading other stories with a similar theme of the weak becoming strong and leveling up otherwise you won’t be able to fully appreciate them. I see people frequently comparing these stories to Solo and I don’t think it’s really fair to the stories. They are not Solo they are their own story.

For me I see similarities not just in the “weak becoming strong” trope, which I know is a popular narrative in a lot of fantasy and adventure stories (and which I love). The sick mother, the cure all medicine, the dying then reviving with strong abilities, the game-like reality screens able to check levels and power, the awakening of people with powers, the sudden in pouring of monsters through portals, the girl in distress that the MC saves, idk I can list a lot more but I just see a lot of similarities. Honestly if this story was better executed I wouldn’t mind the similarities in the story but because I feel it isn’t done well I struggle to get though each chapter

Its so great that it is almost par with 2020 webtoon... Considering the technology used before...
    Its an OLD BUT GOLD
the story and phasing are so great if you compare it with others that Was publish in the same year

    Mangrove February 4, 2020 5:27 pm

I'veseen so many like you comparing this and SL which is very wrong. if you read Korean fantasy novel, dungeon i modern world theme are very common just as common as many isekai theme in Japanese novels or xianxia genre in Chinese novels. Ive have read tons similar genre and neither ISK nor SL come first. its just they among the first get manhua adaptation so you may assume things

    Mangrove February 4, 2020 6:21 pm

also regarding your opinion I am completely disagree. ISK definitely not the best but say SL is better?
i cant see your so called "dept" at all, literally the only excellence on SL is the art while story full plothole.

    Character:
neither the MC or Villain are special (no spoiler}, nor there any character development at all.
before awakening Jin-woo shown as timid character with good social interaction but after awakening he become someone that can massacre "villain" without bathing an eye just like generic edgy-loner-OP-chuunibyou-protagonis. this is not character development, they basically 2 different people.

    plot:
the author change direction of story many times, it especially obvious on novel version, shown how badly written it was. the ending suck as well and kinda forced or maybe the author simply abandon it.
he found a guild only forgotten afterward.
many character introduce on early chapter only become forgotten character as story progress or they keep there but without any purpose at all.
the romance is suck, love interest fall in love out of nowhere and their relationship forced.
MC pursuing power without clear purpose, and he very, very selfish. as he become stronger and stronger he can already save the world at some point but he didnt do that, make him kinda unlikeable
ex : he can literally soloing on ant arc but with poor excuse he dont join team, only come at last minute after letting many massacred, with very specific purpose to monopolize exp and show his awesomeness.
    etc..... etc....

Mufuji January 27, 2020 1:33 am

So I just finished reading everything and I’d say that this is a 3/5 manhwa. The art changes twice, for a total of 3 different styles but honestly that didn’t bother me much and I didn’t like the original art style anyways so the change was welcome. This story can get quite corny at times when it really overstrokes the MC’s capabilities/actions, and the pace of his skills development can be way too fast or just generally overkill (him being OP for every skill is just not interesting for me personally). I also don’t like the direction the romance and possible harem aspect may be heading, honestly nothing much has happened so far but I hate romance in these types of stories and harem is even worse. The typical trope of super duper powerful MC who all the women love and he so unique and famous and skilled at everything he tries to do without literally any resistance or struggle can make a story really boring and I fear that’s what this story is becoming. Generally however, it’s a solid read and not terrible at all. If you have time, give it a go yourself and see how you feel, but I wouldn’t call it a “MUST READ” or anything like that.

    Aura February 27, 2020 10:01 am

It's not harem tho, if that eases your mind xD
He literally just had sweet moments with the girl that went and had her operation. They did fall in love with each other but it ended before it could really start.
Later he gets a legit girlfriend and that's all the romance you'll ever see

    Historia Zen February 7, 2021 7:02 pm

I'd say, this really discouraged me since what you commented is the thing that disappoints me the most. It really gets boring when mc becomes rapidly stronf to the point of no struggle and usually it only takes a few hit to eliminate an enemy, I prefer a slow paced character growth. Also, i really don't like romance in an action story if possible even if FL isn't that bad, not like I'm against romance but it really sours my mood and eventually causes me frustration. Oh well.

Mufuji February 13, 2020 5:51 am

so is no one bothered by the whole pedophile aspect of this manga? having sex with lilith and then that teacher lusting after him is fricking weird considering he's in the body of a 14 year old boy.... and him and lilith fucked when he was 12... like bro that's gross, even if he was internally 200+ years old that's like creepy perverted guys saying that it's fine if they date minors because they're 'mentally mature'. i just don't see why the author would want that to be the romantic aspect of the story, it's literally straight up pedophilia.

    MEEP February 13, 2020 2:07 am

Then why did you bother reading this "japanese manga" if they are all weird shit?

    Mufuji February 13, 2020 5:51 am
Then why did you bother reading this "japanese manga" if they are all weird shit? MEEP

I think u misinterpreted what I said, I didn’t say all Japanese manga are “weird shit”, I was saying that they have the tendency to normalize pedophillic content and themes, hence the “shotacon” genre and sometimes even aspects of loli characters. It’s a problem that even many Japanese content creators like the great Hayao Miyazaki have acknowledged and taken issue with. I love manga but I’m bothered by the grey line some of them have between what is child pornography and what isn’t. Just my op though.

    youraedthiswrogn February 13, 2020 3:56 pm

It's weird for sure, but I'd say that this is much more of a gray area than the example you gave of "mentally mature" teens as they could just think they're mature. He's literally a man in a boy's body with thoughts that reflect his age and life experience.

    MEEP March 24, 2020 10:28 pm

Ah, I see. Sorry, I'm just used to people picking fights over this kind of stuff when they know they don't like it. And I agree. But if anything, you should look at how this is the stuff that was popular for so long. Not only that, but you cant tell the age of a lot Japanese people, someone who looks 15 could be 30. So there is that cultural aspect too I guess.

Mufuji January 6, 2020 8:36 am

I cannot believe I avoided reading this manga/manhwa for so long! Idk why I didn't want to pick it up but God am I happy I did! Guys if you are considering reading this, DO IT. The art is great, the narration is perfectly paced and the character development is so so satisfying! Sometimes with MC's that become OP, the story can get boring, or they become OP waaaay too fast and it just isnt fun to follow their story anymore, but the author really knows when to pull back on the OP-ness (lol idk any other way to describe it) and knows when to still portray the MC as vulnerable at times and isnt afraid to show that sometimes he isnt strong enough for certain things/quests/decisions yet, which is sooo rare in these types of stories! We also get to see other story lines than just his, and the amount of world-building and detail is very smart and very creative. Also, as a female reader it is so great that for once, a male MC in an adventure fantasy doesnt have a f-ing harem because that really kills the vibe of the story for me. Overall, this is easily one of the absolute best stories I have read EVER and just such a fantastic find, I binged this in a day and I cannot wait to read the rest! 5 stars!!!!ヾ(☆▽☆)

    IHaveTurnedFujo January 8, 2020 1:28 pm

Mufuji October 1, 2019 7:38 am

LISTEN UP PEOPLE. I cannot stress enough how TRASH this story is. It should be a PUNISHABLE OFFENSE to waste such gorgeous art on the heaving pile of garbage that is this storyline. It’s bad enough that the art is paired with this brain FUCK of a narrative, but I adore the FMC’s personality, and love the little bit of spicyness that saves this manga from being the boring vanilla shoujo most other mangas lead by women are. So why in God’s green motherfuckin earth would the Universe allow someone to fuck up something so promising with such shit story telling. A PROPOSAL??? they barely know each other??? And anri is traumatized and we’re still sucking the love triangle dick??? WHAT? We had something here and instead it just had to take the WTF turn onto highway Bullshit. Someone call 911 because it’s a fucking train wreck.

    Yuki November 17, 2019 6:51 pm

why are there so much dislikes? like ur so right the art is SO MFING BEAUTIFUL OMLL but the plot is pure shit

    Pardno April 30, 2020 6:21 am

Agreed!!! I can’t express enough how much of a disappointment this turned out to be. What happened to Anri’s resolve to making her only think of him and “wanting” her if he’s just gonna let her go marry someone else. And then even after he confessed his love to her and kissed her multiple times, she still thinks of him as her “pet”? What the actual fuck?!? Then after she was starting to see him as a man, she magically forgets about it the next day. Lol. I was actually enjoying the story at first then it got so shitty out of nowhere. That proposal also came outta nowhere— just really poor development, honestly.

Personally not feeling the female MC. I feel she’s rather lackluster for someone whose supposed to be MC and really not that likeable at all, honestly if she died I’d only be sad because I know our Vampire would be sad. I also feel the pace of this manga has been all over the place and their relationship development was rushed in the last two chapters. Overall is id say this Manhwa is 5/10. No hate just my thoughts y’all

    Anonymous September 4, 2019 6:00 am

    Luckluster in what sense?

    BongoCat September 6, 2019 8:22 am

i think u missed the point. She still doesnt like the Vampire yet. So yes, the relationship development is still ongoing slowly. she's starting to get friendly and caring for him as a friend, not romantic love yet. I like the way she is because she's not trying too hard to be a good person. Its an impossible standard to be this fairytale like person. She's acting exactly what she is, a traumatised girl that fell into another world, suffering from PTSD and overcoming that. The realism of it is respected here, that its Good. I like how you can easily defend and like the male character despite him being super violent to those he doesnt favour, but not like a girl who is simply fighting her fears and learning to be sincere through her traumas. Why do we redeem hot male characters so fast? Is it the ovaries talking?

    maychan September 6, 2019 10:56 am

same, I really don't care about her. I didn't felt she had any personality either. the vampire should have been the MC. yeas the plot is...I didn't felt there is much plot either.

I like how you try to discredit my opinion using my gender as justification :) I think you missed the point. Like i said, I don't have a problem with the fact that she doesn't like him, or that she's not perfect and is traumatized by the things the vampire did, actually, I too like the realistic response she has. However, I find her attitude towards the vampire way too all over the place and her personality to be quite dull, pessimistic and inconsistent. The author, in my op, just hasn't written the MC well. Also i dont find the vampire hot, the drawing style in this manhwa isnt for me.

    Agent1773 September 7, 2019 1:51 am
    Luckluster in what sense? @Anonymous

like, she doesn't really stand out in the story much? I'm not saying she should be super loud, an extrovert and like stupidly optimistic about her situation but for me she really just sinks into the background and comes off as unlikable? again not saying this because she didnt wanna fck the vampire as soon as he was nice to her because in the last few chapters shes basically fallen in love with him and that still doesnt change how i see her, its kinda hard to explain but i think it also has to do with how poorly paced the storyline is and how inconsistent her personality has been written?

I would agree that the art style and story telling is still in its early stages. I think this is one of the artist's first works and it shows. However i feel that her attitude towards the vampire is justified as someone who had to force herself to like the person that abused her. She went into the state where she is just insincere about her feelings and is just there to survive. Her attitude is all over the place because in her situation, one's personality will be split so many times, just to cope with the trauma and the sudden kindness shown on her. Compared to Sanghee from They say i was a King's Daughter, Areum takes a stand and gets the Vampire to see her side of things. She wasnt afraid to reject the Vampire's offer to be friendly with him, because she herself forgot how to be sincere despite the trauma. She was also not afraid to hold grudges and call out the vampire in his actions towards others without going into this god awful trope where "female character forgives male character that is still an ass, because he's hot". So yea, good content, just bad art and pacing

    BongoCat September 7, 2019 5:40 am

I had assumed u were one of those people who hate Areum for not falling at the Vampire's feet immediately cos he blushed. Ive had seen too many of those and Im just done inside. I wouldnt say its slow yet, since its only 30 chapters and they are getting somewhere. Areum was quick to confront Travis and change him for the better. I guess if you canta stand the amateur pacing of the manhwa, then u should go somewhere else that's more professionally paced and aesthetically pleasing

    BongoCat September 7, 2019 6:00 am

I really don't think Areum like the Duke yet tho. She doesnt think of him that way, even in her thoughts. Maybe the pacing just made you assume that they rushed into romance, when literally Areum is still just a companion to Travis under Travis' orders. She likes him as a friend, but not until she wants to willingly jump on him. Why do you think she's oblivious to all his gestures.

Agent1773 September 3, 2019 7:38 am

Guys I am so confused why this has 9.5 stars? The constant random side stories mess with the flow and chronology of the story, and character development is super limited. Like I feel like we’ve learnt nothing about our characters. Their relationship (not just romantically but just generally) hasn’t developed at all. it’s great that our FMC is tough and all but her total and complete disinterest in Kirishima as a even just a person makes this story boring and kinda stagnant? If it’s just Kirishima chasing Yoshino and Yoshino hating him the whole story, then what’s the point of the story at all? I’m not saying she has to reciprocate his feelings (or wtv u call the way he’s acting towards her) but there’s gotta be some kind of other way they can develop together as people? This manga is super meh. Wish it was better :(
