its done on purpose, its probably a bl industry thing. in most average bls hey try to make the guy with the bottom role as invisible or basic as possible so that the reader can self insert...and since yaoi is written for the heterosexual female audience, when something is a hit with the majority audience, they roll with it.

If one really wants to read a good narrative which defies the genre cliches and copy paste recycled crap, ones gotta refine their taste and find those gems which actually have a story to tell instead of the mediocre trash that can be found in abundance in the yaoi genre.

yeah, when i was new to yaoi/bl i read it purely cause it was something different. i have never read stories with that self-insert mindset at all. then i read the comments and saw ppl getting emotionally involved, taking stuff personally and getting offended by the things that happen in these fictional stories which surprised me at first cause i couldnt relate to it but then i realized and was like ah thats whats up.

I understand now. Cause I didn't see these comments few years back. I see people have actually gotten too involved with the characters
