Nah I've seen webtoons or mangas that aren't harem genre but sucks at writing female characters. The girls are usually Mary Sue, or tsunderes who kept hitting a guy all of a sudden.

Though I do agree, what I think is trying to be presented is that since the MC is mute, the feelings they are trying to say is a little hard to understand. Yes, you can tell what emotion he is showing but you can't understand word for word what he is trying to say, therefore the seme is having trouble finding out the MC really likes him. The seme is also bad at loving, so the mute part really has a big part in misunderstandings. Just wanted to say that but I do agree that a lot of yaois' ukes have to cry for the seme to have sympathy (=・ω・=)
