Happened to come across this on my feed (link below), I'm ok w/ the article more on the explanation side. But what I'm not ok with were the comments both on Japan Today and the original feed at SavvyTokyo.

I'm I wrong to think that BL opens alot of people's mind in terms of acceptance? Letting people in the closet knows that for every family that wants to turn them straight or condemn their preference, there are just as many families that accept them for who they are. Look, growing up is hard enough as it is, I'm sure as a LBGTQ there's more challenge. Just like love, it is hard as it is, having more variables into the equations is no easy task. Am I just dense and don't agree? I know all the manga I've read by no means a true reflection of the society it took place in. But, am I that far off base?

It’s true, but I hate this article either way. I hate that people specificallyy pick out BL when ecchi exists. Not to even mention hentai and how yuri is mostly drawn by men.

I hate this so much because it’s like they’re saying BL is what’s bad about the anime community when girls are sexualized in many, many, anime and manga.
    Idk I’m ending this rant

Also, who said we can’t tell the difference between fiction and reality? If you drive into anything on the internet you should know how to separate the two.
They mentioned bad plots where the seme does anything to get the uke and how it’s kinda horrifying in real life.
Yes it’s weird as hell in weird life, we all know that, but it’s literally just manga.
